The Royal Rumble match has been a tradition since 1988. The battle royal-like contest has resulted in wrestlers going from fan favorites to main event talent. Who will step up when the Royal Rumble heads to Tampa, Florida on January 27? The event airs on Peacock in the U.S.
As the name suggests, the event features two (a men's and women's) Royal Rumble matches, featuring 30 stars on each side. The point is to throw everyone else over the top rope to the bottom of the floor. The last person in the middle of the ring in both Rumble matches earns an opportunity at a world title at WrestleMania 40 in April.
Past winners include "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and John Cena. Last year's winners were Rhea Ripley and Cody Rhodes. This year, Rhodes enters the Rumble match again, as well as the returning CM Punk. The former AEW World Champion in Punk enters a Royal Rumble match for the first time since 2014.
