This year, WWE's Survivor Series event will not feature the traditional elimination match it is known for. Instead, on November 26, the event will feature the WarGames match, a staple of Jim Crockett Promotions and WCW.

Survivor Series will take place inside Boston’s TD Garden.

There will be two WarGames matches. On the women’s side, Bianca Belair teams with Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim, and Becky Lynch against Bayley, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky, Nikki Cross, and Rhea Ripley. With one more competitor to be named, will we see the return of Boston's Sasha Banks, who hasn’t appeared in WWE since May?

The men's WarGames match has not yet been announced. Other bouts on the card include Ronda Rousey defending the WWE SmackDown Women's Title against Shotzi, while A.J. Styles faces Finn Balor in a battle of former Bullet Club leaders.

What is WarGames?

The WarGames match involves teams facing off against one another in a steel cage that takes over two rings.

One member of each team enters the cage. Following a few minutes, a member from one of the teams would enter the cage for an advantage. Other competitors enter the ring following a specific amount of time until everyone is in the match. When everyone is in the cage the match can only be won by pinfall or submission, per WWE's rules.

In WCW, there was a roof over the cage. That is not the case in WWE's iteration of the match.

The match was created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987. In the early days (Jim Crockett Promotions) The Road Warriors, Nikita Koloff, Dusty Rhodes, and Paul Ellering faced off against The Four Horsemen (Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Lex Luger, Tully Blanchard, and J. J. Dillon). In WCW, the match would feature Sting, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and more until 2000. WarGames returned in 2017 under the WWE NXT banner.
