Arsenal will move five points clear at the top of the Premier League if they win at Luton Town in the first meeting between the teams since December 1991 on Tuesday.

The promoted hosts secured their first win of the season at Kenilworth Road by beating Crystal Palace in the last round of top-flight fixtures, and they are protecting a nine-match unbeaten run against Arsenal at home that has lasted since January 1984.

Extending that record will require them to end Arsenal's five-match run of wins in all competitions, although only an 89th-minute goal from Kai Havertz saw them past Brentford in their most recent away game, having suffered their only league defeat of the season so far when they lost 1-0 at Newcastle United on November 4.

Luton could move five points clear of the relegation zone with victory but could slip in to the bottom three if they do not win and second-bottom Burnley beat Wolves at Molineux in the other Premier League fixture on Tuesday.

Luton vs Arsenal lineups, team news

Luton's long injury list includes Tom Lockyer, Marvelous Nakamba, Alfie Doughty, Mads Andersen, Reece Burke, Cauley Woodrow, Teden Mengi and Dan Potts.

On-loan Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga cannot play against his parent club.

Luton Town projected lineup (3-4-3): Kaminski (GK) — Osho, Bell, Giles — Kabore, Ruddock, Barkley, Townsend — Chong, Morris, Ogbene.

Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey are still absent for the Gunners, while Fabio Vieira is in the midst of his red-card suspension after his sending-off against Burnley in mid-November. Jurrien Timber has a long-term knee injury, and Ben White could come in for Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has a knock.

Arsenal projected lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Rice, Trossard — Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

Luton vs Arsenal prediction, odds

Luton are yet to lose at home by more than a goal this season and only failed to beat Liverpool because the Reds scored a 95th-minute equaliser at Kenilworth Road.

Their depleted ranks, however — particularly in defence — make Arsenal deservedly short odds, with a narrow win for the visitors the likeliest outcome.

Prediction: Luton 0-1 Arsenal
