Cristiano Ronaldo has dominated headlines in the buildup to Portugal's only friendly match ahead of the 2022 World Cup, following a blistering interview in which he lashed out at Manchester United.

Portugal will be determined not to let Ronaldo's drama distract them as they seek to extend the strong run of form that has seen them win seven of their last nine home games, despite a 1-0 defeat to Spain in September.

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro has won just two of his eight games in charge of the Super Eagles, and he will be without Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for the trip to Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and Portugal, who are on their way to Qatar, will hope to round off their preparations for the tournament with a victory and a clean sheet.

Portugal vs. Nigeria lineups

Pedro Neto suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out of the World Cup, and he misses this match along with Diogo Jota, who has a calf injury. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Danilo Pereira is recovering from a hamstring problem and is unlikely to feature.

PORTUGAL (4-5-1): Costa (GK) — DEFENDERS Mendes, Dias, Djalo, Cancelo — MIDFIELDERS Carvalho, Neves, Vitinha, Silva, Fernandes — FORWARDS Ronaldo

Injuries to Real Sociedad forward Umar Sadi, Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers and the aforementioned Osimhen mean that it is left to Qudus Akanni and Edidiong Enobong to lead the line for the Super Eagles, as they did in a 2-0 defeat to Costa Rica last time out.

NIGERIA (4-4-2): Bankole (GK) — DEFENDERS Ohaka, Bameyi, Isaiah, Ogbonda — MIDFIELDERS Samson, Nosiru, Wotlia, Nwobodo — FORWARDS Akanni, Enobong

Portugal vs. Nigeria odds, prediction

Portugal's superior form and stronger squad should be enough to secure a win here, with Nigeria a clear outsider.

Ronaldo will be desperate to generate some positive headlines by finding the net, and a bet on more than 2.5 goals in this game could be attractive.

  • Pick: Portugal
  • Prediction: 3-0
