Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford for the first time

With new manager Erik ten Hag prompting hopes of a return to the upper reaches of the table, Manchester United will be targeting an end to their trophy drought during the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Once regular winners of the title, United had a dismal campaign by their standards last term, dispensing with the services of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.

German coaching oracle Ralf Rangnick was installed as interim boss but was unable to revive the fortunes of a squad routinely accused of failing supporters with their performances and attitude.

Can Ten Hag change the mood at Old Trafford? When will United take part in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions? Here's what you need to know:

Manchester United in the Europa League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup

Having reached the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League last season, former Europa League winners United return to Europe's secondary competition in 2022/23.

After wretched early exits in both domestic cups last season, United will want better showings when they join the Carabao Cup in November and the FA Cup in January in 2022/23.

Manchester United Premier League betting odds

Reigning champions Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham are all priced shorter than Manchester United to win the 2022/23 Premier League title.

A return to the top four would represent a success for Ten Hag after United only confirmed sixth place on the final day of the 2022/23 season.

Manchester United best & worst Premier League finish

United have rarely genuinely threatened to win the Premier League since their last title, which came during legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge in 2012/13.

Had United not beaten West Ham to sixth place in 2021/22, it would have equalled their worst ever finish in the Premier League — although they still ended up with their lowest points tally (58) in the Premier League era.

Their lowest finish in the league table since 1992 came in 2013/14, when current Hammers manager David Moyes oversaw a seventh-placed finish for a United side who struggled to adjust to Ferguson's departure.
