Serie A - trophy - Italy - May 2021

With the Serie A title and Champions League races as hotly contested as any league in Europe, the Italian top flight sees several key matchups taken into the final weekend, first and foremost the title race.

Defending champions Inter Milan (2nd, 81 points) had the lead for much of the season, but may have blown it as AC Milan (1st, 83 points) leads by two with just one match remaining. It's not over yet, however, as AC Milan must achieve a result against Sassuolo to confirm the title, and Inter needs to win to have a chance. AC Milan holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, collecting four league points off Inter across their two fixtures this season.

The Champions League places have been wrapped up, but the fight for the other European places remains a fiery contest. Lazio (5th, 62 points) and Roma (6th, 60 points) sit in Europa League places, while Fiorentina (7th, 59 points) holds the Europa Conference League spot, but Atalanta (8th, 59 points) is poised to make a last-day charge.

Serie A does not hold all its final day matches at the timeslot like the Premier League does for sporting purposes. Instead, the Italian top flight elects to spread out the matchups to get all games a prime viewing window. Still, the title challengers Inter and AC Milan will play at the same time, as do relegation battlers Salernitana and Cagliari.
