Slovakia have secured the first major shock result of Euro 2024 as they sealed a 1-0 win over Domenico Tedesco's Belgium in Frankfurt.
The Red Devils were tipped as pre-tournament favourites to top Group E, but they kicked off their campaign with a loss, as Slovakia upset the odds, making it the biggest statistical upset in Euro history with the 48th ranked nation beating the world No.3 side.
Despite starting on the front foot, Belgium were left stunned after just six minutes, as Ivan Schranz fired home from close range, after Koen Casteels denied Juraj Kucka.
Belgium rallied after the break, but VAR was to play the crucial role, as Romelu Lukaku was denied an equaliser after being ruled offside just before the hour mark.
As Belgium threw everything into their push for a response, technology had the key say again in the dying minutes, as Lukaku fell foul of VAR as Lois Openda was penalised for handball in the build up to his second rejected equaliser.
Victory is a major boost for Slovakia's chances of reaching the Round of 16 knockouts, and Belgium face a crunch tie against Romania on June 22, with the Eastern European side cruising to a 3-0 win over Ukraine in their opener.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was not included in the 26-man Euro 2024 squad. Despite starting the UEFA Champions League final, Tedesco did not believe he was ready for the rigors of tournament football following an ACL injury that decimated his 2023/24 campaign.
