The 32-year-old club captain remains at the pinnacle of the game, despite getting caught out in a nervy end to the semi-final against Bayern. The centre-back has bailed his side out of trouble many times before with crucial goals, however, and will be hoping to do so again on Sunday.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have two of the best left-backs of this generation in the shape of Marcelo and Jordi Alba. It is Madrid's long-serving Brazilian sensation who gets the nod, however, as he remains fantastic going forward and allows Cristiano Ronaldo to be at his best when the two are on the same flank.

As one of the best passers around, the 28-year-old midfielder takes up a pivotal role in Zinedine Zidane's team. A World Cup winner and former Bayern star, he would likely walk into any side in Europe but remains under-rated by many fans.

Another fantastic passer, Modric is often cited as the most important player in Madrid’s team and it would be hard to argue that. The Croatian star somehow improves every season he plays with Madrid.

We are yet to see the best of Philippe Coutinho in a Barcelona shirt, but anyone who watched him play at Liverpool knows what a talent he is. His ball control is unmatched and his ability to strike from long range is second to none. Coutinho just about beats out Iniesta to this spot and a good performance in the Clasico this weekend would uplift his Camp Nou career.

The joint easiest choice in the team. You can’t leave out one of the best players of all time. Messi once again looks like he is going to top the goalscoring table in La Liga this season. He is the top scorer in Clasico history and the heartbeat of the Barcelona team

Suarez has again hit over 20 goals in La Liga this season. Arguably the best striker in the world, Suarez gets in this team over Karim Benzema with ease. The Uruguayan has found the back of the net over 100 times for Barcelona and he is only in his fourth season at the club.

Nobody needs telling how good Cristiano Ronaldo is. It’s easy to quote his positive goals to game ratio for Real Madrid or his amazing run in the Champions League this season. In 2018, Ronaldo has somehow shifted into another gear after a slow start to the season, at 33 years of age he has never looked better.
