Liverpool's Premier League title chase is in tatters, but the Reds will look to close the season out strong for their departing manager as they visit West Ham with an early Saturday kickoff.

Defeat in the Merseyside derby left Liverpool chasing both Arsenal and Man City at the top of the table, and with only four games remaining, their opportunities to make up that gap are minimal. Thus, the remaining schedule will primarily be about playing for Jurgen Klopp, who is leaving the club at the end of the season.

The German boss has become a club legend during his time in charge of the Reds, and honouring him with a strong finish to the campaign, even if they fall short of the title, will be important to the players in this squad, many of whom would not have enjoyed the prolific careers they possess without him at the helm.

West Ham, meanwhile, have floundered down the stretch as well, mired in a stretch of four straight games without a win, including their two adverse results against German buzzsaw Bayer Leverkusen which saw them crash out of the Europa League, plus a pair of multi-goal league defeats to Fulham and Crystal Palace. They sit eighth in the league table, still very much in the mix for a return to European competition next season but needing to act fast to avoid falling out of contention.

Liverpool vs West Ham prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Liverpool (-175)
  • Score prediction: West Ham 1-3 Liverpool

Liverpool look exhausted to conclude the season, and are falling short of expectations on both ends of the pitch against inferior opponents, but they remain a strong team capable of pummeling opponents on a regular basis.

The Reds have misfired at an astonishing rate up front in recent weeks. Since the start of March, they have registered 186 shots worth 19.0 expected goals, both tops in the Premier League, but have found the net just 13 times with those efforts, fewer than half the English top flight in that span. Still, on the whole finishing is a fickle skill which can turn sweet or sour at seemingly any moment.

With a fully fit Jarrod Bowen, West Ham might have a shot to pip an out-of-form Liverpool, but with him needing painkilling injections just to see the field, it's tough to back West Ham at anything less than 5/1 value.

  • Odds: +200 (BetMGM)

Liverpool look flat out exhausted to finish the season. In every facet of the game, they appear to have run out of steam, just like their outgoing manager.

Against Everton last time out, Liverpool registered 1.39 of their 2.08 xG, including two of their three "big chances" before the halftime break, and even while trailing through the entire second half and pushing for a comeback, they had little to savor across the final 45 minutes. The Reds have been a second-half team all season long, but it has completely emptied their energy reserves.

West Ham, meanwhile, have conceded 12 goals in the final 15 minute interval of the first half this season, tied for most in the Premier League, which is troublesome given that is when Liverpool have looked their most dangerous of late, including against Everton. One side will likely take a first-half lead in this match and look to sit on it, while the other side toils without return in a comeback attempt.

Liverpool vs West Ham prop bet

  • Pick: Liverpool to have 20+ total shots
  • Odds: -115 (FanDuel)

While Liverpool cannot finish chances over the past few months, they are still creating opportunities at a strong rate, even if the ball isn't ending up in the back of the net. In their 15 Premier League matches in 2024, Liverpool have topped the 20-shot mark in 10 of them, while hitting for 19 in one other (against Man City).

West Ham, meanwhile, have a soft underbelly and could be ripe to sit back and let Liverpool come at them. They have coughed up 20 shots to an opponent on three occasions since the start of February, with Arsenal, Everton, and Newcastle reaching that threshold, while the likes of Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Crystal Palace ripped off 18 or 19 against the Hammers, the latter two coming in their last two games.

This one, yet again, will be all about whether Liverpool can find the net with their opportunities, or if it will be another frustrating day for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and the rest of the Reds' front line.
