It all comes down to this. Sixteen enter, only five come out Olympians. Welcome to the USA Olympic gymnastics trials.

The star of the show is of course Simone Biles, the greatest gymnast of all time, as she goes for her third Games. She's not the biggest name to watch, though, as competition is tight.

Shilese Jones is almost guaranteed a spot despite missing the U.S. Championships earlier this month to take care of a lingering shoulder injury. Jones has multiple word medals, including a silver in the 2022 all-around and bronze in 2023.

But Skye Blakely, the 19-year old who had a breakout performance at the U.S. Championships, is out of the competition. She suffered an Achilles injury during training and will miss the Olympics.

The heartbreak blows the competition wide open in Minneapolis.A handful of the Tokyo team are going for their second Olympics, including Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles as well as 2021 alternate Kayla DiCello.

The trials will present one of the toughest team-building decisions for the committee. Do they take the reigning Olympic floor champion or the Pan-American Games champion who helped the U.S. to a gold at Worlds? Who hits at the two-day trials will be the answer. It's now or never for the gymnasts at Minneapolis's Target Center.

The Sporting News is tracking live results from the first day of the women's competition at the USA Olympic gymnastics trials.
