Raiders' Davante Adams would have gotten more from Packers in contract: 'He just didn't wanna be there'

Davante Adams turned down a lot of green from the Green and Gold to play for the Silver and Black.

The wide receiver was stunningly traded to the Raiders this offseason, promptly signing a big-time contract worth $140 million over five years.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers were offering a bit more. Rapoport says that the Packers deal was worth more over the first two years of the deal, ultimately leading to questions as to why Adams preferred a trade.

"They offered him a bigger deal, I think over the first two years, than what the Raiders ended up offering him," Rapoport said. "Just, he didn't wanna be there."

The Packers would trade Adams to the Raiders for a 2022 first-round pick (No. 22) and second-round pick (No. 53) after placing the franchise tag on him earlier in the offseason.

The news that Adams would have gotten more upfront from Green Bay isn't necessarily new, as Rapoport reported something similar at the time of the deal:

There are obvious questions that remain. How much, overall, did the Packers end up offering Adams? Had the deal been larger, would he have stayed in Green Bay?

It's been a "lifelong dream" of Adams to play on the Raiders and with Derek Carr, his quarterback at Fresno State between 2011 and 2013.

The Packers, thin at wideout, would draft North Dakota State's Christian Watson with the No. 34 overall selection. Adams, not thin in the wallet, will get to live out a dream in Vegas.
