Not so Happy Halloween: Five NFL QBs who shrink when the lights go down

It may be nerves getting to them for a big Primetime game, or trouble with their eyesight.  Or maybe it's just a general fear of the dark. But whatever you want to blame it on, there are several NFL QBs who'll treat you to a hair-raising performance when they come out to play at night.

Cam Newton is 41-30 in his career during daylight, but Superman’s kryptonite in this case might be the moon. Newton’s numbers fall off across the board in night games, throwing an interception about 30 percent more often with a passer rating about eight points lower than normal (81.1).

Petrified Palmer

The QB out of sunny Southern California has a winning record in his career when it’s light, but his passing yards and completion percentage go down when the sun does. About 15 yards per game and 2.5 percent, respectively, to be exact.

Spooked Stafford

Spooked Stafford

Stafford is enjoying a career season in 2016, but that might be in part to not having played any Primetime games yet. The Lions QB averages a touchdown per every 30 pass attempts in his career during night games, compared to one every 21 pass attempts at all other game times.

Terrified Tannehill

Tannehill hasn’t been too good in general, but the much-maligned Dolphin dips even further under the bright lights. His touchdown to interception ratio (8-10), passer rating (78.3) and average pass yards per game (225) drop-off substantially at night from his overall career numbers.

Disturbed Dalton

Dalton bucked the trend in his one opportunity so far in 2016 (a TNF win vs Miami), but darkness has brought some notoriously brutal play for the six-year vet throughout his career (including a four-point drop-off in completion pct). When you compare his Primetime stats under the lights to a .686 win pct and 92 passer rating in all other games, you’d have to think there a little bit of fright at play.
