Seven stats that put Brett Favre in a class of his own

Probably the most unbelievable stat about Brett Favre is that for 17 straight seasons he did not miss a single game. Durability might have been his best attribute, and being on the field so often resulted in some other eye-popping numbers that set Favre apart from virtually every other quarterback — in both a positive and negative light.

Decade of dominance

Decade of dominance

During his first 10 years as a starter, 1992-2001, Favre threw 287 touchdown passes – over 100 more than the next-highest QB in that span. The difference between Favre and No. 2 during that time frame — Steve Young with 181 — is more than the difference between Young and No. 29 on the list, Jake Plummer.

Iron Man

Favre threw a pass in 301 consecutive regular season games from Nov.10, 1991 to Dec. 20, 2010, the longest streak of its kind. Favre and Jerry Rice are the only players to even appear in 300 career games as a non-kicker.

Making connections

Making connections

Favre completed at least 300 passes in a season 18 different times, the most all time. The only others to even crack double-digit seasons are Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Dan Marino.

Gunslinger

Brett Favre threw 10,169 passes in his career. That’s 789 more than the second-highest total, from the arm of Peyton Manning. Favre threw at least 500 passes in a season a record 16 times.

Questionable decisions

Questionable decisions

Favre is the only player in NFL history with at least 300 career interceptions. His 336 is 69 more picks than number two on the list, George Blanda. Not surprisingly, he has the most career 15-interception seasons with 14, three more than runner-up Bobby Layne.

Taking a beating

Taking a beating

Favre was sacked a record 525 times, losing a total of 3,487 yards (three guys have actually lost more). The 3,487 yards lost by Favre is equal to the exact amount of yards gained on passes by Phil Simms during his 1986 Super Bowl-winning season with the Giants.

Old Man Favre

Old Man Favre

Favre threw 162 TD passes after age 35, the most in NFL history. That’s more TD passes than the entire careers of Sid Luckman, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Joe Theismann, Archie Manning, Jim Harbaugh, Jeff Garcia and Michael Vick.
