Caitlin Clark can now be mentioned in the same breath as LeBron James.
The Iowa superstar has a new basketball card as she is featured in Fanatics' new Bowman U Chrome basketball series for 2023-24. The highly anticipated set, which also includes a 1-of-1 dual autographed card with LeBron and Bronny James, dropped on January 19.
The drop comes on the heels of Clark setting a record for the most expensive women's basketball card ever sold. According to Eric Whiteback, also known The Collectibles Guru, Clark's 2022 Bowman U card recently fetched over $21,000 at an auction, smashing the previous record of $11,500 held by Sabrina Ionescu.
Clark isn't the only high profile women's college basketball player in the new 100-card Fanatics set which also includes cards for UConn's Paige Bueckers and LSU's Angel Reese, among others.
While there's obviously no guarantee in landing the soon-to-be iconic Clark card, your only bet is via one of the factory-sealed packs and boxes. Fanatics — which did a special drop on January 19 with boxes guaranteeing at least two autographed cards — is now selling value boxes for $24.99 with a special code for free shipping. Each box contains seven packs with four cards in each pack along with four Pink Refractor Parallels.
James, no stranger to the world of high-priced collectibles, recently inked an agreement with Fanatics after spending the first 20 years of his NBA career with Upper Deck. The Lakers' superstar announced his partnership with Fanatics on Instagram several days before the 2023-24 Bowman set was released.
Card collectors have long coveted special edition LeBron cards, several of which have fetched a pretty penny at auctions. Most famously, an autographed rookie patch card from the 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite set sold for a record $5.2 million, the most ever for a basketball card according to PWCC Marketplace.
In Bowman's new series, LeBron appears alongside his son, Bronny, side-by-side on a 1-of-1 autographed card. The card depicts LeBron in his high school jersey from St. Vincent-St. Mary's and Bronny in his USC Trojans jersey.
Earlier in 2023, The Athletic reported that Fanatics reached an agreement with the NBA to become the exclusive provider of officially licensed cards. The deal takes effect in 2026 when the deal with current rights holder Panini ends in 2026. Panini has been the exclusive licensee for NBA trading cards since 2009.
