With four months of the 2022-23 NBA regular season officially in the books, it's a good time to check out the latest odds for the Rookie of the Year race, which, unlike the MVP race, has not seen a ton of odds movement. Magic forward Paolo Banchero is leading the way as the betting favorite (-650), which isn't surprising given his pedigree and performance.

However, other rookies, such as Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin and Pistons guard Jaden Ivey, have played well for their teams and would probably be the Rookie of the Year in any other season. Below, we’ll break down the latest odds from BetMGM for Rookie of the Year and discuss some of the top contenders.

NBA Rookie of the Year 2023 odds: Favorite

Paolo Banchero, Magic (-650). The former Duke standout is in the driver's seat to win Rookie of the Year this season with the way he's played through 44 games. Banchero leads the Magic in scoring (20.7) and assists (3.7) and ranks fourth in rebounds (6.4). The 20-year-old power forward has been fun to watch on a nightly basis and has staked his claim as one of the top-scoring options for a rebuilding Orlando squad.

At -650 odds, there's little to no value in betting on Banchero to win ROY. Bettors missed their opportunity to place a wager during the summer and at the start of the regular season. That being said, Banchero's odds could slip if he were to miss time, whether it's a legitimate injury like earlier in the season or if Orlando shuts him down early to help its draft position. Ultimately, though, if Banchero continues to play well, he will have this award locked up.

NBA Rookie of the Year 2023 values

Bennedict Mathurin, Pacers (+550). Mathurin is the only rookie who could overtake Banchero for Rookie of the Year. The former University of Arizona standout has been excellent for Indiana, who is occupying the 10th seed in the East. It does not matter if the 20-year-old is starting for the Pacers or coming off the bench -- he always finds a way to make an impact.

This season, Mathurin is averaging 14.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a starter (six games). However, his production goes up to 18.3 points per game in a reserve role. The rookie is in the running for the Sixth Man of the Year award, which is another testament to how good he's been in Year 1. If Banchero were to miss extended over the last half of the regular season, Mathurin would be the front-runner to win the award.

Jaden Ivey, Pistons (+3300). Ivey has been flying under the radar this season, as the Pistons have been one of the worst teams in the league. Without Cade Cunningham on the floor, Ivey has started to figure it out and look like the player we saw at Purdue.

This season, the 6-4 guard is averaging 15.1 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from behind the arc. The latter isn't that impressive, but he shot the ball a little better in January (42.4 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three). Ivey won't get a ton of love in Rookie of the Year voting, but if Banchero were to miss time, Ivey's odds would increase drastically if he stays on his current track. In that hypothetical scenario, his odds wouldn't drop under 10/1 (+1000), but they would still be good enough for bettors to get value.

More Rookie of the Year sleepers to consider: Walker Kessler, Jazz (+3300); Jalen Williams, Thunder (+12500)
