Though he denies it, Marlon Vera is the only man to beat Sean O’Malley in the octagon. O’Malley is ready to put the past behind him and beat Vera in the present when he defends the UFC bantamweight title against “Chito” at UFC 299.

O’Malley lost against Vera in 2020 after his foot went numb following a kick that shut down his peroneal nerve. Since then, he has won five contests, including a controversial win against former champion Petr Yan. The 29-year-old beat Aljamain Sterling via TKO for the title.

“Suga” won’t acknowledge the loss but does recognize Vera's skills.

“His durability,” O’Malley complimented Vera on via MMA Junkie. “He’s hard to put away. If you can’t put him away, you better be ready to go for 25 minutes, so I plan on a 25-minute war. If he were to beat me, he’d beat me once. It’s that simple."

Vera has gone 5-2 since the O'Malley fight. After having a four-fight win streak snapped against Cory Sandhagen, Vera beat Pedro Munhoz in his last contest. The Ecuadorian fighter is a popular figure heading into UFC 299, as over 40+ reporters came from the country to watch him fight.
