As MLB's Winter Meetings progress and the big free-agent dominoes continue to fall, the 2023 World Series odds markets adjust accordingly. It's never too early to get a glimpse into how the betting market is pricing your favorite team's or arch-rivals' odds to lift the Commissioner's Trophy, and with José Abreu, Jacob deGrom, Trea Turner, and Justin Verlander finding new homes, and Aaron Judge remaining in New York, we've already seen a semi-dramatic shift in the market.

Below, we’ll list the updated World Series odds and break down a few notable risers who've seen their odds to win the 2023 Fall Classic shift.

Notable risers

Houston Astros +600; opened +700

After opening with the second-shortest odds behind the Dodgers, Houston's back atop BetMGM's odds board as the favorite to win the 2023 World Series. Justin Verlander's loss certainly stings, but Houston's got a deep enough rotation, now headlined by Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier,  to compensate for Verlanders' loss. The Astros' move back atop the odds board has to do with the team inking former White Sox first baseman and 2020 AL MVP José Abreu to a three-year deal, while ex-Dodgers' shortstop Trea Turner signed a hefty contract with the Phillies.

The American League West makes a case to be the most complete division in baseball, as four of the five clubs are attempting to win now. In turn, it makes wagering on a team to win the World Series, even the defending World Series champions, tough to do at this point of the offseason. The Astros are still the team to beat in the AL West as their stingy offense, sound defense, and deep pitching staff can lead Houston to a repeat title in 2023.

New York Mets +900; opened +1000

The Mets shored up Jacob deGrom's loss by adding Verlander for a steep $43.33 million AAV, reuniting him with former Detroit Tigers teammate Max Scherzer. Verlander and Scherzer form one of the best one-two starting pitching punches in the league.

We'll see where whether they're able to strike a multi-year deal with Chris Bassist and re-sign Brandon Nimmo but even if both players go elsewhere expect the Mets to fill their void. With that in mind, expect their World Series odds to fluctuate a bit more than the rest of the league. As Scott Boras says, "the Mets are on a championship Met-a-morphosis." Even with a World Series-caliber roster, since the NL East is an ultra-competitive division, making a Mets World Series bet at this juncture is a risky move.

Philadelphia Phillies +1200; opened +1600

Trea Turner's 11-year $300 million dollar deal makes Philadelphia a legit World Series contender in the immediate future. Turner's addition bolsters Philadelphia's lineup top-to-bottom, as he also gives them a reliable anchor at shortstop.

Philadelphia's odds would be even shorter if not for Bryce Harper's elbow surgery that'll keep him out of the Opening Day lineup. If Dave Dombrowski's able to add another arm or two to replace the losses of Zach Eflin and Kyle Gibson, there's a good chance the Phillies leapfrog the Mets and sit under 10-1 to win it all. It's hard to not want to buy back into what we just saw in the postseason.

Seattle Mariners +1600; opened +1800

Seattle's got a real shot to do damage in 2023 after ending its playoff drought last season, as they've already acquired Teoscar Hernández and Kolten Wong via trades to help stabilize its lineup. Hopefully, they're able to avoid Houston until the ALCS come playoff time, but they've shown an ability to compete with the defending World Series champs and could very well take them down in a best-of-seven series.

Seattle would be the odds-on favorite in two other divisions (AL Central, and NL Central), and even in a deep AL West, a second straight playoff appearance seems likely. They're sure looking like the best bet on the board at the moment with a 16-1 price tag.

Texas Rangers +3000; opened +5000

Sticking in the AL West, the Rangers have seen the most dramatic odds shift since inking the game's most talented pitcher, Jacob deGrom, to a five-year $185 million dollar deal. deGrom's signing comes one year after the Rangers solidified their middle infield, and if they're able to bring in a couple of other reliable arms, this team's capable of competing for a playoff spot in 2023.

MORE WS FUTURES: Rangers' odds shift

Seeing a 50-1 price tag next to their name is enticing, but it feels like the Rangers are a year away from being considered a real World Series contender.
