Astros vs. Yankees final score, results: Houston sweeps New York for fourth World Series trip in six years

For the second straight season, the Astros will represent the American League in the World Series.

The Astros swept the Yankees in the 2022 ALCS to win their fourth pennant in six years. And for the second year in a row, they're going up against an NL East team that has gotten hot at the right time in the Phillies.

After a lengthy rain delay Sunday, Game 4 got off to an inauspicious start for Houston. The Yankees jumped out in front with two runs in the first inning and another one in the second.

In the third, however, ALCS MVP Jeremy Peña broke the seal for Houston with a three-run home run off Nestor Cortes following a pair of walks. Cortes then came out of the game with a groin injury, replaced by Wandy Peralta, who gave up another run in the inning.

The Yankees, to their credit, came back. After Anthony Rizzo had his second RBI of the game in the fourth, Harrison Bader gave New York the lead with a no-doubt home run in the sixth. It wouldn't last long, however, as Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman — as they so often have — drove in runs in the top of the seventh to give the Astros the lead for good.

The Astros were just the better team in this series, and it felt that way throughout. In keeping with the theme of their World Series opponent, they were Ivan Drago -- a well-oiled machine with a counter for everything the Yankees threw at them. Perhaps that makes the Phillies their perfect foil. We'll find out once the World Series starts Friday in Houston.

Astros vs. Yankees live updates, highlights from ALCS Game 4

(All times Eastern)

12:08 p.m. -- After taking a ball, Judge grounds out to Pressly to end it. The Yankees win their second straight AL pennant and their fourth in six years! FINAL: Astros 6, Yankees 5

12:08 p.m. -- Judge swings through the first pitch on a curveball and takes a changeup for a strike.

12:06 p.m. -- Bader gets jammed up on a ground ball to first and Yuli Gurriel takes care of him himself for the second out of the inning. The season now rests on the bat of Aaron Judge.

12:05 p.m. -- Astros get the first out of the inning on a fly ball to center field. Harrison Bader steps up with the bases empty.

12 a.m. -- Crazy play on a bunt from from Bregman as the Yankees get him at first on a double pump and Rizzo gets Altuve trying to swipe third. Alvarez grounds out, and Pressly takes the mound for Houston trying to send the Astros to the World Series.

11:59 p.m. -- Altuve gets another hit on some weak contact into right field this time, plopping one over Rizzo. The Astros have the leadoff man on, and now they're undoubtedly thinking about expanding the lead.

11:54 p.m. -- Carpenter rolls over on Montero and grounds out to end the eighth. The Yankees have three outs left to make something happen.

11:52 p.m. -- Cabrera flies out to Alvarez in left field on some decent contact, and it'll be Matt Carpenter pinch hitting here in the eighth for Kiner-Falefa.

11:49 p.m. -- Donaldson gets rung up looking AGAIN in a full count as Montero puts one at the knees. One out for the Yankees in the eighth, and Cabrera steps up.

11:44 p.m. -- Holmes does his part with a 1-2-3 eighth, and the Yankees go into the biggest eighth inning of their season down one. They've touched up Montero before. They'll have to do so again before Pressly comes out.

11:42 p.m. -- Mancini gets rung up by Holmes on a checked swing for the first out, and Chas McCormick steps up and immediately pops out to second for the second out.

11:37 p.m. -- Abreu gets Torres swinging to get out of the seventh, and the toughest part of the Astros bullpen is still to come. Houston is six outs from the World Series.

11:35 p.m. -- Peña makes a huge play in the shift to get Anthony Rizzo for the first out of the inning, bringing the always-dangerous Stanton up to the plate with no one on and one out. Stanton slices one to right that is caught toward the track by Kyle Tucker, and the seventh now falls on Torres.

11:34 p.m. -- Dusty Baker is on schedule with his bullpen, as Bryan Abreu takes the mound with a 6-5 lead in the seventh. Rafael Montero and Ryan Pressly loom.

11:29 p.m. --  Gurriel grounds out to Donaldson at third to get the Yankees out of the inning, but significant damage is done. 6-5 heading into the seventh inning stretch.

11:28 p.m. -- Tucker advances both runners to bring Yuli Gurriel up with a chance to break the game open with two outs.

11:25 p.m. -- Bregman takes Holmes the other way to right field to drive in Peña and the Astros have the lead (and they aren't done yet this inning). Kyle Tucker comes up with one out and two on.

11:23 p.m. -- Clay Holmes comes in to try to stop the bleeding.

11:19 p.m. -- Alvarez IMMEDIATELY delivers with an RBI shot into right field and drives Altuve in to make it 5-5. Boone gives Loaisiga the hook with runners at the corners and one out.

11:17 p.m. -- The Yankees fumble a tailor-made double play ball off the bat of Peña and the Astros have two on with one out. Brutal break and the Yankees meet on the mound after. One down, Altuve on second, Peña on first, Alvarez at the plate. The Yankees are firmly in the danger zone after an error at second.

11:10 p.m. -- Loaisiga takes another bat but Altuve beats the shift down the line for an infield single. The TBS booth seems determined to say Altuve is out, but the call stands after review. Remember, tie goes to the runner in theory. In practice that's not always the case, but it doesn't get closer than that.

11:09 p.m. -- Loaisiga continues to pitch well, striking out Maldonado to start the seventh, and the order flips to Altuve with one out.

11 p.m. -- Yankee Stadium has life again, and Neris is working slow against Judge. He gets him looking on a classic low sinker to get out of the inning, but not before giving up a run. Yankees head into the seventh with the lead.

10:58 p.m. -- Bader immediately does it again as he yanks a Neris sinker that caught too much plate 378 feet to left field, and the Yankees reclaim the lead. Bader continues to shine for the Yankees. Yankees 5, Astros 4.

10:57 p.m. -- More soft contact from Trevino as he pops out to Altuve in shallow right. Two down in short order for Neris, and Bader steps up.

10:56 p.m. -- Hector Neris is in for the Astros, and on his first pitch he jams up Kiner-Falefa for a soft lineout. Trevino up for New York.

10:53 p.m. -- Another soft roller to Loaisiga gets the Yankees out of the sixth. After a fast start for these offenses, both sides have slowed things down. It's still 4-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

10:51 p.m. -- No bat is safe. Loaisiga shattered Mancini's bat on a running fastball for the second out of the inning. Nasty work from the Yankees reliever.

10:48 p.m. -- Loaisiga just got Gurriel swinging for his life on the first pitch of the inning. One down for the Astros immediately to start the sixth.

10:44 p.m. -- On the ninth pitch of the AB, McCullers gets Cabrera looking to get out of the inning. If that closes the book on him, it'll have been an up-and-down day but he leaves having held the Yankees in check.

10:43 p.m. -- Cabrera is working a long at-bat against McCullers, who is approaching 100 pitches. Now 2-2 after a few foul balls.

10:41 p.m. -- McCullers back out for the fifth, unsurprisingly despite his ups and downs, and he gets Torres and Donaldson out as Cabrera steps in. Two down with the bases empty.

10:34 p.m. -- Tucker grounds up the middle to Loaisiga for the third out of the inning, and we head to the bottom of the fifth. Nice job in relief there after the leadoff walk.

10:31 p.m. -- What a break for Loaisiga and the Yankees there. Bregman hits one up the middle and it careens off Loaisiga's foot to Kiner-Falefa, who steps on the bag and gets Bregman at first. Two down and the book is not closed on Peralta. No Yankees decision yet.

10:26 p.m. -- Right on cue, Peralta walks Alvarez and Boone gets right out of the dugout to bring in Loaisiga. A cordial ovation for Peralta from the Yankee faithful.

10:25 p.m. -- Peralta is on the mound again throwing to Alvarez-Bregman-Tucker. Loaisiga must be just about ready as Peralta approaches 40 pitches.

10:21 p.m. -- Stanton grounds out to Peña at short to end the inning, but not before the Yankees tie things up on a nice piece of hitting from Rizzo. Yankees 4, Astros 4

10:19 p.m. -- Rizzo once again comes up big with a two-out RBI up the middle to drive in Bader after a wild pitch put him in scoring position. Hit it just left of the bag, and the Yankees have tied things up.

10:17 p.m. -- Judge JUST missed his third home run of the postseason there, as it gets caught at the wall for the second out of the inning. Bad jokes about the roof being open are on their way.

10:14 p.m. -- Leading off for the Yankees, Jose Trevino grounds out to Bregman at third for the first out. Good pick by Gurriel to finish the play. Bader comes up first-pitch swinging and he singles up the middle, continuing a good night.

10:11 p.m. -- Peralta gets a much-needed easy inning and gets Peña looking. Yankees are back to the plate for the bottom of the fourth.

10:10 p.m. -- Maldonado and Altuve both go down in short order, so we get to the troublesome Jeremy Peña with two outs and nobody on.

10:03 p.m. -- Kiner-Falefa strikes out and the Yankees threaten but don't score. Astros retain their one-run lead heading into the top of the fourth.

9:59 p.m. -- Cabrera follows Donaldson up with a groundout to second into the shift, bringing up Kiner-Falefa with Torres -- who advanced on a wild pitch -- on third. Two down.

9:57 p.m. -- Donaldson gets rung up on strike three right at the knees in a full count. One down for New York with Torres at first.

9:56 p.m. -- After a great pick by Maldonado hear nearly gets Torres at first leaning. Torres made a great play to get back.

9:54 p.m. -- Yankees try to get things started again with Torres poking one out to center to start the third. Josh Donaldson now comes up in a big early at-bat.

9:50 p.m. -- McCormick chops that one out to Kiner-Kalefa at short for the third out, and the Yankees are out of it. Not before giving up the lead, however, and the Yankees enter the bottom of the third down one.

9:49 p.m. -- Mancini flies out to Judge in right for the second out and the runners hold up once again. Chas McCormick now comes up looking to expand the lead with two outs.

9:46 p.m. -- Gurriel now takes one the other way to drive in another run, and the Astros have taken the lead off of Cortes and Peralta. Still only one out with runners on first and second.

9:43 p.m. -- Tucker scorches one back up the middle and catches Peralta in the heel of the glove. Peralta tried to make a play but fumbled the ball, and Tucker reached safely. Runners at the corners now with one out.

9:42 p.m. -- Alvarez makes a base running mistake there on a deep fly ball to right caught by Judge a step ahead of the track. One down now with Tucker coming up once again.

9:41 p.m. -- Alvarez welcomes Peralta to the game with a double down the right field line, and now Bregman steps in with nobody out and a runner on second.

9:34 p.m. -- Cortes is removed after that homer after 2+ innings. Wandy Peralta comes in as an injury replacement, and a promising start is now 0-0 in the third.

9:32 p.m. -- Cortes gets into another three-ball count to Peña and Peña continues his ridiculous October with a three-run homer to tie things up. Cortes was bending for a while there, and he just finally snapped. With one swing of the bat, it's a tie ballgame.

9:30 p.m. -- Cortes walks Altuve as well with Peña coming up. Bullpen should be active soon. Just too many deep counts in an elimination game for Cortes.

9:28 p.m. -- Boone and the trainer are out after Cortes looked like he tweaked something. It's a quick conversation and gets broken up quickly. But he's just seems to be a bit off so far tonight.

9:27 p.m. -- It's another leadoff walk for the Astros, their second in as many innings. Altuve steps up to his customary chorus of boos. That obviously tends to precede disaster in this stadium.

9:22 p.m. -- Stanton strikes out on a curveball in the dirt to end the inning, so the Yankees settle for one. Astros bats will try to get going against Cortes here in the third.

9:20 p.m. -- Rizzo beats the shift by going the other way with an RBI double that drives in Kiner-Falefa. Great piece of two-strike hitting, and Giancarlo Stanton is up with a chance to do more damage. Yankees 3, Astros 0.

9:17 p.m. -- The payoff pitch whizzes by Judge's helmet to walk him, so Rizzo will come up with runners on first and second and two down.

9:17 p.m. -- Despite Judge's struggles, McCullers is pitching him with a lot of respect. Count is full with two outs as Judge tries to shake out of it.

9:13 p.m. -- After the IKF double Jose Trevino fouls out and Harrison Bader softly grounds out to Peña. Two down with a runner on second and Judge at the plate.

9:10 p.m. -- The Yankees are playing like, well, their season is on the line. In another two-strike count, Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubles down the right field line to lead off the second.

9:06 p.m. -- In his fourth full count of the game, Cortes gets McCormick swinging to get the Yankees out of the inning with nothing but a no-out walk. He's battling tonight.

9:02 p.m. -- Cortes goes sidearm and gets Mancini to softly line out to second for the second out of the inning. Chas McCormick comes up with two down and a runner on first.

9 p.m. -- After getting into yet another full count, Cortes walks Kyle Tucker to open the inning. Yuli Gurriel immediately pops out to Kiner-Falefa for the first out.

8:55 p.m. -- Cabrera skies one to right field for the third out, so the Astros get out of the inning with two runs allowed on the Stanton and Torres singles. Yankees 2, Astros 0.

8:53 p.m. -- Josh Donaldson gets a momentum-killing three-pitch strikeout. Took on the first two and swung on the third. He's just struggled. Cabrera is up.

8:51 p.m. -- For what feels like the first time since Game 4 of the ALDS, the Yankees get some luck on a bloop single from Gleyber Torres into the right center Bermuda Triangle. Rizzo comes in from third and Stanton barely gets to second in time. 2-0 Yankees early.

8:49 p.m. -- Stanton has the Yankees on the board with a single the other way to drive in Bader and get Rizzo to third. He got into a 3-1 count and took the third straight slider of the at-bat to right. Great start here for the Yankees after the delay.

8:48 p.m. -- Yankees could have something brewing here in the first, as Anthony Rizzo is hit by a pitch. Giancarlo Stanton comes up and gets into a hitter's count.

8:45 p.m. -- Right on cue, Bader gets things rolling by yanking a McCullers 0-2 slider to center for a hit. Judge, meanwhile, flies out next for the first out.

8:44 p.m. -- Harrison Bader will lead things off for the Yankees against Lance McCullers Jr. He's been a bright spot for the Yankees this postseason.

8:40 p.m. -- Another long at-bat for Alvarez ends in a fly ball to left field, so there are two down with Bregman stepping up and Peña on first. Bregman comes up first-pitch swinging and pops out to short. A 20-pitch first in which Cortes only faced four batters.

8:37 p.m. -- In another full count, Jeremy Peña singles to left off of Cortes. Runner on for Yordan Alvarez.

8:34 p.m. -- Altuve takes strike three after working Cortes into a full count. Ball looked off the plate, but that's part of Cortes' game. One down in the first.

8:32 p.m. -- We're finally underway in New York, as Cortes starts Altuve off with a pair of balls off the plate.

8:27 p.m. -- And the Astros, who will bat first.

8:25 p.m. -- Players are on the field and the first pitch has been thrown, so it looks like we're on pace for the projected 8:30 start! Here's a look at the home lineup.

7:15 p.m. -- Obviously no updates from this game yet, as it's presently under a weather delay until further notice. Officials are meeting and MLB will give updates in due time, per MLB Comms.
