And if there's a thing or two Miami knows, it's heat. Max Verstappen has run hot and cold this year, either winning a race or taping up a DNF on the scoreboard as Red Bull continues to work through early-season woes.

When it hasn't been Verstappen on the top step of the podium, it has been Charles Leclerc and Ferrari. The Italian team has upped its game and has two wins on the season, surpassing the constructor's win totals from 2021 and 2020. It won a grand total of zero races in the last two seasons.

As it turns out, things change pretty quickly in F1.

Here's what you need to know about the Miami GP:

Is there a Formula 1 race today?

  • Next F1 race: Miami Grand Prix
  • Date: Sunday, May 8
  • Lights out: 3:30 p.m. ET

After a two-week break, F1 returns Sunday, May 8, for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.

Red Bull and Ferrari have traded wins this year, with Charles Leclerc taking Rounds 1 and 3, and Max Verstappen taking Rounds 2 and 4. Mercedes is still searching for its first win.

Formula 1 schedule 2022

There are 22 scheduled events on the F1 docket for 2022, one race shy of tying the mark for longest F1 calendar.

The season started in Bahrain on March 20 and will end with its customary Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, although a bit earlier than usual, in November. If the schedule stands, this will be the earliest end of the Formula 1 season since it ended on Nov. 4 in 2013.

Returning to the 2022 F1 slate are the Canadian and Japanese Grand Prix, both of which were canceled in 2021 amid fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

The calendar also includes the maiden voyage of the Miami Grand Prix, the first of two races in the United States in 2022. The customary United States GP will take place in October.

The Russian Grand Prix, originally scheduled for Sept. 25, was canceled due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
