Germany face Spain in a box-office group-of-death showdown that could leave Thomas Muller and Co. on the brink of elimination.

Japan's 2-1 victory over the Germans was a major shock and left Hansi Flick's men in danger of back-to-back group-stage exits at the World Cup. If the Samurai Blue get at least a point against Costa Rica in the earlier game, a loss for the 2014 world champions would see them exit the tournament.

Spain's roaring form will be terrifying German fans. A thumping 7-0 victory over Costa Rica in their opening match put Luis Enrique's team in Group E pole position.

Drama is a guarantee and if Japan did jolt Germany into action, we could see a fascinating battle between 22 of the world's best players.

This was always going to be the must-watch of the World Cup group stage, but the stakes make it an even tastier matchup. After a shock 2-1 loss to Japan, Germany will be desperate for all three points against a Spain side that looked like a legitimate candidate to win the tournament in their 7-0 obliteration of Costa Rica.

A loss against Spain would likely result in an embarrassing group-stage elimination for the Germans, while victory would virtually lock up a knockout-round berth for Spain. If Germany were to prevail, it would set up a fascinating final day in Group E with qualification scenarios coming down to overall goal difference or other tiebreakers.

Here's how you can watch all the action in the major global territories.

Spain vs. Germany lineups

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia suffered a hamstring injury on November 1 and stayed on the bench as Spain dismantled Costa Rica. Marcos Llorente and Cesar Azpilicueta were both carrying knocks coming into the tournament but appear to have fully recovered.

Alvaro Morata and Dani Carvajal both contracted colds before the Costa Rica match, which was blamed on their hotel's air conditioning. Both men can be expected to return to the lineup.

Spain predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): 23. Simon (GK) — 20. Carvajal, 16. Rodri, 24. Laporte, 18. Alba — 9. Gavi, 5. Busquets, 26. Pedri — 11. F. Torres, 7. Morata, 21. Olmo

Leroy Sane returned to Bayern Munich action just in time for World Cup selection but not quick enough to play against Japan. The winger is training alone at Germany's base. At most, Sane could be risked for a substitute cameo.

His club team-mate Thomas Muller did feature for 67 minutes against Japan but is one to monitor after sustaining a hip injury in late October.

Germany (4-2-3-1, right to left): 1. Neuer (GK) — 15. Sule, 2. Rudiger, 23. Schlotterbeck, 3. Raum — 6. Kimmich, 21. Gundogan — 10. Gnabry, 13. Muller, 14. Musiala, — 7. Havertz

Spain vs. Germany odds, prediction

Spain are unsurprisingly cast as narrow favourites for this one following their barnstorming performance against Costa Rica, and Germany's flop.
