Irish featherweight star Michael Conlan takes on French danger man Karim Guerfi at the SSE Arena in Belfast on December 10. The 10-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by FITE TV in the U.K. and ESPN+ in the U.S.

Conlan (17-1, 8 KOs) is coming off a dominant 10-round unanimous decision win over former three-time world title challenger Miguel Marriaga. The former amateur star scored three knockdowns and used his fleet-footed style and swift punching to befuddle his opponent from start to finish.

That win followed hot on the heels of a Fight of the Year contender against Leigh Wood in March. Conlan got off to a terrific start, flooring Wood heavily at the end of the first round. However, the gutsy Englishman battled his way back into the fight and closed out with a thrilling 12th-round stoppage.

Despite that setback, Conlan remains determined to secure a world title, but he must get past Guerfi to keep that dream alive. Guerfi (31-6, 9 KOs) made a name for himself in February when he came close to stopping Jordan Gill, only to be dramatically knocked out himself.

The 31-year-old Conlan is both confident and respectful in equal measure.

“I’m feeling good; the weight’s bang on, and training has been fantastic,” said the Belfast star in a recent interview with Boxing Social. “[Guerfi] is a banana skin for everyone. There are fights where he’s gone in as the underdog and he’s pulled off the upset.

“He has a bit of pop, a great punch at times, but it’s someone who I’m not underestimating. I’ve got to go in and perform. If you don’t perform on nights like that, that’s when you slip up, and that’s when you lose.”
