Which teams were promoted to the Premier League?

Former playoff winners Fulham were the first team to achieve promotion and they went up as champions of the Championship (second tier) following an incredible season under Marco Silva.

Bournemouth beat out Forest to second place and the second automatic promotion spot, meaning Huddersfield Town, Forest, Sheffield United and Luton Town contested the playoffs for the right to play Premier League football in 2022/23.

Huddersfield advanced to the playoff final after a 2-1 aggregate over Luton. Forest's playoff against Sheffield United needed to be settled on penalties with the sides level 3-3 on aggregate. Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba saved three spot kicks in the shootout to set up the Nottingham Forest vs. Huddersfield final.

In the playoff final at Wembley, Nottingham Forest won courtesy of a Levi Colwill own goal to end their 23-year absence from the Premier League.

Which teams were relegated from the Premier League?

Norwich City were the first team to suffer relegation in 2021/22 and Watford joined them a week later as both clubs dropped down to the second division just one season after earning promotion.

The third and final trap door to the Championship was occupied by Burnley, who were overtaken by Leeds United on the final day.
