Joel Embiid's season has ended sooner than expected once again.

After three straight second-round exits, the 76ers fell to the Knicks in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Philadelphia had to win a Play-In game to qualify for the playoffs and entered the series as the No. 7 seed, but it's a disappointing end for a team with championship aspirations.

The 76ers now enter an important offseason as they look to build a contender around Embiid, who has two guaranteed years remaining on his contract. The recently turned 30-year-old is in the prime of his career, so Philly's front office will be feeling the pressure.

Here's what you need to know about Embiid's contract, salary and future in Philadelphia.

Joel Embiid contract details

Embiid signed a four-year, $213.3 million extension with the 76ers in 2022.

Embiid's salary is guaranteed in each of the next two seasons. He then has a $59.0 player option for the 2026-27 season, making him a potential free agent in the 2026 offseason.

Embiid would headline a free-agent class that could also feature Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jayson Tatum and other stars in 2026.
