What is Rohan Bopanna's record in Grand Slam finals?

On Thursday, January 25, the men's doubles tournament at the 2024 Australian Open entered the semifinal round with two mouth-watering clashes.

In the second semifinal, Australian Matthew Ebden and Indian Rohan Bopanna took on the Czech-Chinese pairing of Tomáš Macháč and Zhang Zhizhen at the Rod Laver Arena, coming out winners 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7) in a hotly-contested match.

Bopanna & Ebden will meet unseeded Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the final on Saturday. This is the Indian's first final in men's doubles at the Australian Open, and comes on the back of a week in which he became the world's number one men's doubles player.

What is Rohan Bopanna's record in Grand Slam finals?

2010: US Open men's doubles

Bopanna's first grand Slam final came in 2010, as he made it to the men's doubles summit clash at the US Open alongside Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. Seeded sixteenth, the pair knocked out second seed Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić in the third round, but lost the final to American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan. 

2017: French Open mixed doubles

If his first final finished in disappointment, Bopanna's second ended in elation. In the 2017 French Open, he and Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski came through a tough set of fixtures, overcoming second seed Sania Mirza & Ivan Dodig and third seed Andrea Hlaváčková & Édouard Roger-Vasselin in consecutive rounds before winning the final 2-6, 6-2, [12-10] against Anna-Lena Grönefeld & Robert Farah. 

2018: Australian Open mixed doubles

In 2018, Bopanna reached his first Australian Open final, pairing up with Hungarian Tímea Babos. This time, Gabriela Dabrowski was on the opposite side of the court, alongside Mate Pavić. They defeated Bopanna & Babos 2-6, 6-4, [11-9].  

2023: Australian Open mixed doubles

It was five years before Bopanna reached another Grand Slam final, again at the Australian Open. Paired with compatriot Sania Mirza in the mixed doubles, their path to the final involved defeating third seed Desirae Krawczyk & Neal Skupski, but they fell at the final hurdle to Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos.

2023: US Open men's doubles

In his most recent Grand Slam, Bopanna made the final of the men's doubles tournament along with Australian Matthew Ebden at the US Open. The pair were seeded sixth, and lost the summit clash to third seed Rajeev Ram & Joe Salisbury.
