From the Indian perspective, Bopanna was the standout story. However, in the men's singles category, Sumit Nagal caught the attention when he qualified for the main draw, before defeating 31st seed Alexander Bublik in straight sets.

Nagal was defeated by Shang Juncheng in the next round, but his run made the country sit up and take notice. All eyes will be on him again, as he takes the field on home turf at the ATP Challenger Bengaluru Open, where he lifted the title in 2017.
