Rohit Sharma was not named in the starting XI for Mumbai Indians in Friday's IPL 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Indian skipper, recently replaced as captain, was dropped from the first eleven by MI skipper Hardik Pandya.

In a tormenting season for the five-time champions, MI are second from bottom and ahead of a huge match at home, Pandya has decided to use Rohit Sharma as an impact sub.

Why did Rohit Sharma not field for MI against KKR at Wankhede?

Rohit Sharma has been named on the bench, in the impact subs list for Mumbai Indians' clash against KKR. This is the first time Rohit Sharma has been dropped in a Mumbai Indians match, to be used later as an 'Impact Sub'.

One reason that Mumbai Indians and Pandya would have taken this controversial call, could be to maximise the number of bowling opportunities at their disposal.

The Kolkata Knight Riders camp has been aggressive in scoring runs first up, and Mumbai Indians need quick and early wickets to stamp your footing onto the game.
