Gary Kirsten was recently appointed as the head coach of Pakistan. The former Protean Cricketer is best-known for his coaching stint with the Indian Cricket Team, winning them the ICC ODI World Cup 2011.

Ahead of the upcoming T20I World Cup, India's arch rivals Pakistan appointed Kirsten as the head coach for the white-ball formats. Meanwhile, former Australian speedster Jason Gillespie was appointed as the coach for Tests.

Former Protean Skipper, AB De Villiers, reflected upon his fellow countryman's new job with the Pakistan Cricket Team. De Villiers spoke in defence of Kirsten, and how his inclusion in the team will take the team in the right direction.

What did AB De Villiers say about Gary Kirsten's appointment as Pakistan Head Coach?

AB De Villiers lauded Gary Kirsten over his appointment as the head coach of Pakistan. The former Protean skipper warned the other teams of a 'more polished Pakistan'.

The 40-year-old cricketer has also expected some players to cut through the tide and rise up to the occasion on the world stage, under the coaching of Gary Kirsten.

"Prepare to see a more polished Pakistan. And be prepared to see some players rise to the top and announce themselves on the world stage and take their game to the next level," De Villiers stated on his YouTube channel.

What next for Gary Kirsten and Pakistan?

Pakistan's journey in the T20 World Cup begins on June 06, 2024, when they face hosts United States of America in Dallas. 

However, the Green Shirts are scheduled to play two preparatory bilateral series against Ireland, followed by their neighbours, England. 

Pakistan's upcoming game will be against Ireland on May 10, 2024, in Dublin. The two nations will play a three-match T20I series, ahead of the World Cup.
