WWE continues its recent worldwide event takeover with Backlash. It will be the first WWE PPV event to air from France.

It is officially a new era as it takes place following a historic WrestleMania 40. Several world title fights featuring new and veteran champions will take place.

Cody Rhodes defends the Undisputed WWE Title against AJ Styles. Rhodes beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania to become champion, finally "finishing the story" after failing to capture gold last year. Styles lost at WrestleMania against LA Knight but beat Knight in a tournament to become the top contender.

Styles has a history with the Rhodes family. In 2003, in TNA Wrestling, Styles beat Cody’s father Dusty to retain the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title. He also wrestled in TNA when Cody's brother Dustin, known as Black Reign, competed for the promotion.

Also on the card will be Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso for the World Heavyweight Title. Priest finally cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania, winning gold. Jey, who beat his brother Jimmy at WrestleMania, won a fatal four-way match to become the top contender.

Other wrestlers on the card include Bayley, Kevin Owens, Jade Cargill, and more.
