Serena Williams' storied tennis career is seemingly coming to an end.
Williams, in a Vogue article released on Aug. 9, suggested the "countdown" has begun for her to hang up the tennis racket, starting with a farewell tour of sorts. That started at the National Bank Open in Toronto, and concludes with what will be her final Grand Slam event — and potentially final tournament ever — at the 2022 US Open in New York.
Per the Vogue article:
"Unfortunately I wasn’t ready to win Wimbledon this year. And I don’t know if I will be ready to win New York," Williams said. "But I’m going to try. And the lead-up tournaments will be fun.
"I know there’s a fan fantasy that I might have tied Margaret that day in London, then maybe beat her record in New York, and then at the trophy ceremony say, “See ya!” I get that. It’s a good fantasy. But I’m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment. I’m terrible at goodbyes, the world’s worst."

Williams' final matches in Cincinnati and New York will be appointment viewing as fans attempt to catch one last glimpse of greatness from one of the most dominant athletes in the world.
