Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios continues to show he's in career best form this year.

After making the Wimbledon singles final and ending his ATP title drought, Kyrgios is playing some of his best ever tennis.

The 27-year-old's decision to play doubles more regularly has coincided with his more consistent form in 2022 and the arena has once again allowed the Aussie to produce something special.

Playing alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Japan Open on Wednesday night, Kyrgios salvaged a seemingly lost point with an extraordinary shot that went around the net.

"Oh wow, he really enjoyed that one and so he should," the commentators covering the match said.

"That was a Kyrgios special in Tokyo. You give him that gap and he will exploit it, what a shot."

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis won the Australian Open together earlier this year and entered the Japan Open as the top seeds.

They proved far too strong for Yoshihito Nishioka and Kaichi Uchida in their opening match as they ran out winners 6-1 6-2 in just 46 minutes.

While Kyrgios successfully pulled off one trick shot during the match, his now traditional attempt at an underarm serve didn't quite come off.

Kyrgios is also still alive in singles at the Japan Open and will take on Poland's Kamil Majchrzak on Thursday afternoon.

In doubles, the Spanish duo of Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Pedro Martinez await the Special Ks next.

Kyrgios has won three doubles titles already in 2022 and the Aussie looks sharp enough to claim more silverware before the year is over.
