LIVE: Follow Morocco vs Portugal updates from the World Cup

The only African team remaining in Qatar, Morocco topped their group before edging past Spain on penalties last time out.

Portugal also managed to top their group and smashed Switzerland 6-1 in the Round of 16 to highlight their title credentials.

Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench against the Swiss and all eyes will be on what role he plays in what could be his final World Cup match should Portugal lose and Morocco's fairy-tale run continues.

Portugal vs Morocco lineups

Cristiano Ronaldo may start this one from the bench again after his replacement Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick against Switzerland.

Joao Cancelo was another who was benched last time out with Raphael Guerreiro and Diogo Dalot favoured in the fullback positions and doing well.

Portugal projected lineup (4-3-3): 22. Costa (GK) — 2. Dalot, 3. Pepe, 4. Dias, 5. Guerreiro — 25. Otavio, 14. Carvalho, 10. Silva — 8. Fernandes, 26. Ramos, 11. Felix

After going to extra time and penalties last time out against Spain, Morocco's starting XI will largely depend on how players recover.

If possible, coach Walid Regragui will likely stick to the players that got the job done in the Round of 16 with no injuries or suspensions to speak of.

Morocco projected lineup (4-3-3): 1. Bono (GK) — 2. Hakimi, 5. Aguerd, 6. Saiss, 3. Mazraoui — 8. Ounahi, 4. Amrabat, 15. Amallah — 7. Ziyech, 19. En-Nesyri, 17. Boufal

Portugal vs Morocco odds, prediction

Portugal's five-goal thrashing of Switzerland last time out has seemingly bolstered their odds for this match.

Morocco will come into this quarterfinal as firm underdogs but their odds don't do their good form in Qatar justice.

The African side have conceded just one goal from four games at the 2022 World Cup and Portugal will have to be extra sharp in the final third to find a way past them.

Expect an extremely tight tussle in this one with Portugal to triumph by a narrow margin. Perhaps Ronaldo silences his critics by scoring the winner off the bench?
