The last set of College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Sunday — in truth, they're the only ones that will matter all season.

Now that all of the conference championship games are complete, the selection committee has some decisions to make, some of them easier than others.

The No. 1 and No. 2 teams entering the weekend, Georgia and Michigan, breezed through their conference title games and figure to remain where they are when the final rankings are released.

Beyond them it was chaos, so much so that many expect No. 3 TCU to remain in that position when the rankings are announced despite losing to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship. Either way, the Horned Frogs' defeat, along with No. 4 USC's loss to Utah in the Pac-12 title game Friday, guaranteed some tension heading into the final announcement.

USC's defeat seemingly opened the door for No. 5 Ohio State to move back into the playoff picture, but will the committee elevate two-loss Alabama, which had been No. 6, ahead of TCU? We'll find out soon.

Playoff places are secure for No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan, while the two highest-ranked one-loss teams, TCU and Ohio State, figure to join them.

There's always the chance the committee could throw a curveball by selecting two-loss ACC champion Clemson over Ohio State, which didn't make its conference title game, but it's difficult to justify the Tigers' losses to Notre Dame and South Carolina compared to the Buckeyes' lone setback against unbeaten Michigan, no matter how ugly.
