No. 9 Clemson and No. 23 North Carolina will meet in Charlotte, N.C., for an all-Carolina meeting in the ACC championship game — one devoid of any College Football Playoff intrigue.

The Tigers had the best chance to challenge for the Playoff entering Rivalry Week, sporting a 10-1 record and needing to win out against South Carolina and the Tar Heels to make a late run for the CFP. But Dabo Swinney's Tigers were the second top-10 team to fall to the Gamecocks in as many weeks, ending any chance Clemson had of challenging for the national championship.

North Carolina's hopes ended a week earlier in a stunning 21-17 upset by Georgia Tech, which dropped the team to two losses on the season, effectively eliminating the Tar Heels from CFP contention.

What's left for the Tigers and Tar Heels in Charlotte? Plenty: Not only supremacy in the ACC, but also a berth in the Orange Bowl, where a premier meeting — likely with Tennessee — awaits.

Saturday's meeting will also feature a captivating quarterback battle: Drake Maye is one of the country's top quarterbacks, and has a legitimate weapon in wide receiver in Josh Downs to elevate his already-impressive game. Conversely, DJ Uiagalelei would love nothing better than to improve on his play in losses against South Carolina and Notre Dame.
