NASCAR lineup at Gateway: Starting order, pole for Enjoy Illinois 300 based on qualifying

For the first time in NASCAR Cup Series history, the series is racing in Madison, Ill., just outside St. Louis. The Enjoy Illinois 300 will take place Sunday at Gateway Motorsports Park (3:42 p.m. ET green flag; FS1, TSN5, MRN).

The track has been a part of the Truck and Xfinity series calendars in recent years, but most of the Cup field is not too familiar with the slick turns of the World Wide Technology Raceway track.

The Enjoy Illinois 300 is replacing the Pocono Organics CBD 325, which took place from 1982-2021. How will racers respond to the new surface? It's not every day that NASCAR drivers race on terrain they haven't experienced before.

Who won the pole for the NASCAR race at Gateway?

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe claimed his first career Cup Series pole Saturday with a fastest lap of 138.274 mph, 0.499 mph faster than Team Penske's Austin Cindric.

"This place is a lot of fun," Briscoe told Fox Sports' Jamie Little. "Both ends are just so opposite, your car's never going to drive good in one of them. As a driver, you've got to figure out what your car needs to somewhat get around the corner on the other end."

"Should be really exciting," Briscoe added. "I'm glad I got the best seat starting out."
