The Genesis Invitational was rocked by the news of Tiger Woods' withdrawal Friday afternoon, and Riviera Country Club received another surprise late Friday with word that Jordan Spieth was disqualified from the competition.
Spieth had a difficult second round at Riviera, finishing 2-over par after a double bogey on the 18th hole, but he still finished the day tied for 20th on the overall leaderboard at 3-under.
Nevertheless, Spieth's run at the Genesis Open is done after two rounds. He would have faced an uphill climb to challenge leader Patrick Cantlay, who sits 13-under par through two rounds, but Spieth was in contention for a top-10 finish.

The 30-year-old appeared poised to seriously contend at the Genesis Open after shooting a 66 in the first round on Thursday, but the disqualification was preceded by a rocky finish to the second round on Friday. Spieth's disqualification extends his title drought, as he hasn't won a PGA Tour event since the RBC Heritage in April 2022.
The Genesis Open lost a few high-profile names after the second round, as Justin Thomas missed the cut along with exits by Woods and Spieth.
