Terence Crawford is done waiting around for Errol Spence Jr. The WBO welterweight champion wants to fight, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

Crawford will now defend his welterweight title against David Avanesyan on December 10. The fight takes place inside the CHI Health Center in Nebraska.

"I'm excited about this opportunity," Crawford told ESPN. "I was really looking forward to the Errol Spence fight. I started communicating with [boxing manager] Al Haymon and PBC back in June. And unfortunately, they represent a fighter in Errol Spence who didn't want the fight as bad as I did… David Avanesyan is a very tough task. He's knocked out his last six opponents and this guy is dangerous. Once I'm successful against Avanesyan, my plan is still the same: Whoop Errol Spence's a--.”

A Golden Gloves silver medalist, Crawford made his pro debut in 2008. Crawford became light-welterweight champion in 2014 and, by 2017, held the WBO, WBC, WBA, and IBF titles. In 2018, Crawford beat Jeff Horn for the WBO welterweight title. He has defended the belt five times, his last fight a TKO victory over Shawn Porter in November 2021.

Avanesyan made his debut in 2009. After losing his second pro fight, Avanesyan went on a 22-fight unbeaten streak, going 21-0-1. In 2015 he won the interim WBA welterweight title, but lost it in 2017 against Lamont Peterson. After failing to win the WBC-NABF welterweight title against Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Avanesyan has gone on a six-fight win streak. Avanesyan's last fight was a TKO win against Oskari Metz.
