On one of the biggest nights in college football, Teofimo Lopez will look to create a moment of his own. The former lightweight champion faces Sandor Martin inside Madison Square Garden on December 10.

Fighting following the Heisman Trophy Ceremony, Martin replaces Jose Pedraza, who tested positive for COVID-19.

"We wish Jose Pedraza a speedy recovery, but we look forward to facing Sandor Martin. He was the opponent we originally wanted for Heisman Night at Madison Square Garden," Lopez said. "I will continue to silence the doubters as I take over the 140-pound division. I look forward to giving my hometown fans a special night of boxing.”

This is Lopez's second fight at junior-welterweight after a run at lightweight. Lopez won the IBF lightweight title in 2019 against Richard Commey and beat Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020 for the WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. He lost the belts against George Kambosos Jr. a year later. Moving to a new division, Lopez returned in August, beating Pedro Campa via TKO.
