The Teofimo Lopez comeback tour is underway. His first stop is the Resorts World Las Vegas Event Center in Las Vegas on August 13. Facing Pedro Campa, Lopez, like his nickname, is ready to “take over” a new division.

"The Takeover is back! I took over the lightweight division, and I plan on doing the same at junior welterweight… Every person goes through challenges, but I’ve put the past behind me and am thrilled to be back fighting on ESPN and in Las Vegas,” Lopez said during a recent training session. "I am calling this fight the 'Take Back' because I am coming to regain what I’ve lost. One defeat does not define a fighter, and it won’t define me.”

Lopez made his pro debut in 2016. He beat Richard Commey in 2019 for the IBF lightweight title. In October 2020 against Vasiliy Lomachenko, Lopez outpointed him to win the WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. After a delay in action due to COVID-19 and a deal that fell through with Triller, Lopez fought George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021. Kambosos beat him via split decision to win the titles.

Campa, his opponent, made his debut in 2011. After a draw against Abner Lopez in 2019, Campa has won four in a row.

Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa prédiction

On paper, the younger Lopez beating Campa makes the most sense. One can almost see it is a warmup fight. But do the stats back Lopez up? Will the time away play a factor?

With 12 wins via knockout, Lopez has a knockout percentage of 70.59%. Campa has 23 knockout wins but only a KO percentage of 63.89%. Lopez also comes in with the 68.5-inch reach. Let’s look deeper into the shots of both men, shall we?

When healthy, Lopez is one of the most lethal men in the game. Against Richard Commey, Lopez landed 43 out of 90 shots, with 38 of the power punches. When he beat Vasiliy Lomachenko for lightweight gold, he changed it up a little bit. Lopez landed 183 out of 659 shots, with 35 of them jabs and 148 of them for power. He can share the wealth when he wants to and can move with such precision it is like watching a piece of art come to life.

Campa can change things up as well, albeit in samples. Against Domicio Rondon, Campa landed 11 jabs and 214 power shots. Against Adrian Perez, Campa landed 41 total shots, with 38 landing for power. His stats beyond that highlight two wins via TKO, showcasing his dangerous punching power.

When Lopez fought Kambosos, he was dealing with injuries, the effects of COVID, and time away. His mindset was not in the right place. Based on recent interviews and how he has looked while training, Lopez appears healthy and focused. Looking to prove his value following a loss like that can make Lopez a dangerous fighter.

It is unsure what exactly Lopez's game plan will be come August 13. What is known is that he will look to make a major statement in a new division. He may do that at the expense of Campa. It may take a while for Lopez to settle back in, but once he does, it could be a good night for the former champion.
