NRLW 2023 Signings Tracker: Latest news for every team, complete rosters

The NRLW contracting window is officially open with the NRL and RLPA reaching an agreement in late March. 

The sixth edition of the comp has been expanded to 10 teams as four clubs join the existing six of the Dragons, Roosters, Broncos, Eels, Knights and Titans in a new-look league that will see players signing multi-year contracts for the first time.  

The Sporting News is tracking all the off-season movements of every NRLW team, including all new arrivals and re-signings as the comp gears up for its start in July.

May 25: The Cronulla Sharks have signed the NSW Origin and Jillaroo outside back Tiana Penitani for the 2023 NRLW season.

Just a day after her release from the Parramatta Eels, Penitani will suit up for the Sharks in their inaugural season. 

“Tiana is an exceptional player and a fantastic addition to our squad,” NRLW Sharks head coach Tony Herman said.

"She has represented the Sharks in the Harvey Norman competition, knows what the club is about and her experience and leadership will be invaluable."

May 25: After an excellent season with the Illawarra Steelers, the Newcastle Knights have confirmed the signing of Viena Tinao.

May 25: The Cowboys have continued their impressive recruitment drive with the signings of Fijian duo Vitalina Naikore and  Merewalesi Rokouono.

“Both Vitalina and Marcoz have played key roles in consecutive premierships for the Fijiana Drua, experience which we believe will be invaluable to our young group here,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries said.

May 24: Former World Sevens Player of the Year and Olympic gold medalist, Tyla Nathan-Wong, has been signed by the St George Illawarra Dragons for the 2023 season. 

May 24: The Eels have revealed they have released Tiana Penitani from her contract on compassionate grounds. 

May 24: Corban Baxter and Brydie Parker have re-joined the Roosters to help complete their 24-player squad a week out from pre-season commencing. 

"One of the most decorated players in women’s rugby league, Baxter makes her return following the birth of her youngest son earlier this year," the club noted.

Meanwhile, Parker has recovered from an ACL injury she sustained during the 2021 NRLW Grand Final to sign with the Roosters. 

May 23: The Tigers have signed Salma Nour, Taylor Osborne, Eliza Siilata and Folau Vaki to complete their 24-player roster.

"All four players are either local juniors or have come through Wests Tigers women’s pathways, reinforcing the team’s ‘home grown’ identity," the club noted. 

May 23: Shontelle Stowers, Madeline Jones, Talesha O’Neill, Kyra Simon and Kelsey Clark have joined Parramatta. 

Stowers and O'Neil are former NSW representatives, while Simon has moved from the Knights where she won last year's premiership. 

May 23: Jillaroo Vanessa Foliaki and Maori All Star Harata Butler have joined Cronulla, while they have also signed young forward Fatafehi Hanisi. 

May 23: Toni Hunt has returned to the Broncos while they have also signed former Titan Grace Griffin. 

May 22: Newcastle have signed Nita Maynard and former Young Matildas captain Sheridan Gallagher

May 22: The Broncos have lured back Brisbane's NRLW foundational player Mariah Denman. 

The forward was a key member of the club's first two premiership-winning teams in 2018 and 2019 before she temporarily stepped away from the game.

“It is fantastic for the Broncos that Mariah is back at the club – she he been playing great football for a long period of time and deserves another shot at the NRLW as a reward for that form," Scott Prince said. 

May 20: The Cowboys have signed sisters Tiana Raftstrand-Smith and Ebony Raftstrand-Smith on two-year deals. 

Tiana made her State of Origin debut for Queensland as an 18-year-old two years ago, while younger sister Ebony comes to North Queensland initially on a development deal for 2023.

May 19: Ruby-Jean Kennard has become the Eels first junior to progress through the club's system and has signed a deal till the end of 2024.

May 19: The Wests Tigers have signed former Australian Wallaroo, Pauline Piliae-Rasabale, ahead of their inaugural season in the NRLW.

“There will only ever be one first season and I’m really looking forward to doing my bit for the team,” she said.

May 17: Former Australian Wallaroo, Grace Kemp, has joined the Raiders after being lured to the nation's capital off the back of appearing for Australia at last year's Rugby World Cup. 

The forward will be joined by former New Zealand sevens star Cheyelle Robins-Reti and marks a busy few days for Canberra after they also signed Ahlivia Ingram and Petesa Lio

May 16:  Kiwi Ferns winger Autumn-Rain Stephens Daly has signed a two-year deal with North Queensland Cowboys. 

May 16: Outside back Monique Donovan has signed a two-year deal with the Parramatta Eels. Current Eels coach Dean Widders previously worked with Donovan at Rabbitohs in 2021.

May 12: The Titans have rounded out their top 24 squad with the addition of New Zealand international Georgia Hale. The 27-year-old forward averaged 44 tackles at 97 per cent efficiency last campaign. 

May 11: The Eels have continued their recruitment drive by signing rep duo Cassey Tohi-Hiku and Mahalia Murphy

Murphy has represented the Australian Rugby 7s, Wallaroos and Jillaroos, while Tohi-Hiku represented the Under 19s NSW Blues last year. 

May 11: Wests Tigers have signed exciting duo Jakiya Whitfeld and Leianne Tufuga.

"To be a part of the very first Wests Tigers NRLW team is something very special," Whitfeld, who was the leading try-scorer for the North Sydney Bears last year, said.

"It’s a great group of girls we have here and I have heard nothing but good things about the club."

May 10: The Knights have announced six new signings including Kiwi Ferns duo Abigail Roache and Laishon Albert-Jones

Former Parramatta prop Rima Butler is also joined by Tamerah LeatiJayde Herdegen and Felila Kia.  

May 10: Parramatta have announced seven new signings with; Jade Fonua, Amelia Mafi, Shannon Muru, Pihuka Berryman-Duff, Tyla Amiatu, Capri Paekau and Rosemarie Beckett joining the side. 

"It’s great to be welcoming a number of new faces to the club," Eels' Head of Football, Mark O’Neill, said. 
 
"All these young women have demonstrated their talent in the game and the Eels look forward to helping them develop further as they build their careers in NRLW." 

May 10: Bree Chester, Mia Middleton, China Polata, Makenzie Weale, April Ngatupuna and Jetaya Faifua have all signed on with the Cowboys for the upcoming NRLW season in a major boost for the new club. 

"This group contains a good mix of on-field skillsets and just as importantly, off-field character, which are the traits we are looking to build around for our first ever NRLW season," coach Ben Jeffries said. 

May 10: The Raiders have completed a trio of signings with former Knight Jessica Gentle and rising star Tara Reinke joined by former NSW Waratah Ella Ryan. 

May 5: Newcastle have complete a trio of signings with Jasmin StrangeCaitlin Moran and Jules Kirkpatrick all onboard for 2023. Moran appeared in four matches for the Knights last season, including in the side's grand final win over Parramatta, while Māori All Stars winger Strange joins from the Roosters. 

May 5: Sareka Moore has joined the Cowboys with the Indigenous All Stars representative inking a two-year deal

May 4: After adding some big names last month, the Roosters have extended Mya Hill-Moana, Kalosipani Hopoate, Jocelyn Kelleher, Jayme Fressard, Shawden Burton, Joeli Morris and Shannon Rose for the upcoming 2023 season. The club have also announced the signings of Lily Rogan, Tavarna Papalii, Tyler Bentley, Teuila Fotu-Moala and Alexandrea Kiriwi, adding plenty of depth to the roster in Bondi. 

May 3: Cronulla have added four more names to their NRLW roster, with Tayla Preston, Cassie Staples, Brooke Anderson and Ellie Johnston all linking up with the Sharks for 2023. 

May 1: Gold Coast have re-signed experienced duo Brittany Breayley-Nati and Steph Hancock on one-year deals. 

“I’m truly humbled to be given this opportunity to represent the Titans again," Breayley-Nati said. 

"I don’t take this lightly as every jersey isn’t a given… it’s earned." 

April 29: The Parramatta Eels have signed Nakia Davis-Welsh. The former Jillaroo and Indigenous All-Star will be returning to the NRLW for the first time since 2018, when she fell pregnant. 

"Nakia is an inspiration for other athletes and aspiring athletes, she has shown huge determination in returning to the top level and the Eels are thrilled to offer her an opportunity to show her talent in the NRLW," Eels' Head of Football Mark O’Neill said.

April 29: The Cowboys have signed English fullback Fran Goldthorp on a two-year deal.

“Fran is a dual international who will bring experience and composure to our spine alongside Kirra Dibb and Emma Manzelmann,” coach Ben Jeffries said.

April 27: The Sydney Roosters have re-signed reigning Dally M Centre of the Year Jessica Sergis.

They have also bolstered their squad by adding five-eighth Tarryn Aiken. The 23-year-old won two premierships in her four-season stint with the Brisbane Broncos. 

April 27: Elsie Albert has departed the Dragons, opting to take up an offer with the Eels. 

April 25: North Queensland have signed four PNG internationals in Essay Banu, Shellie Long, Jessikah Reeves and Sera Koroi.

“These four PNG Internationals will bring a real diversity to our squad in terms of culture in addition to their experience from playing in the recent World Cup,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries said.

April 24: The Sharks have signed promising young talent Jada Taylor on a two-year deal.

April 23: Nine members of last season's premiership-winning squad for the Wests Tigers have re-signed with the club. 

Bianca Bennetts, Emily Curtain, Sophie Curtain, Imogen Gobran, Jessica Kennedy, Josie Lenaz, Rebecca Pollard, Ebony Prior and Hope Tevaga have all signed deals. 

“What you see here is the result of many years development work here at Wests Tigers,” Brett Kimmorley said.

"It’s brilliant that the vast majority of this team has been playing with our club for a few years now, getting ready for the NRLW."

April 21: The Sydney Roosters have pulled of a huge triple signing with Mille BoyleAmber Hall and Keeley Davis all agreeing to join the club.

Boyle is a three-time premiership winner and was named the Dally M NRLW Player of the Year in 2021. 

Hall has represented the Kiwi Ferns and was listed as a finalist for the 2022 Golden Boot award.

Davis has moved from the Dragons where she spent five seasons, while also representing Australia and NSW. 

April 20: Brisbane have completed a trio of deals with Hayley Maddick and Hannah Larsson re-signing, while they also recruited Lauren Dam from the Titans. 

"Hayley, Hannah and Lauren are great signings for the Broncos and will all play important roles within our squad across the 2023 season," coach Scott Prince said. 

“We are really happy with the team that we are assembling – we now have 17 players announced and a few more still to come who will round out the squad nicely, and we can’t wait to get our preseason underway.”

April 20: Holli Wheeler has become Cronulla's third signing with the Jillaroos forward inking a two-year deal. 

April 20: New Zealand Rugby Sevens star Niall Williams has signed a two-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans.

The Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medalist is set to join after the conclusion of the World Rugby Sevens Series next month.

“Niall might have a famous surname, but she is a very talented athlete in her own right with nearly 20 years of representative experience,” Titans coach Karyn Murray said.

April 19: Jesse and Hannah Southwell secure five-year deals with the Newcastle Knights.

Jesse led the Knights to a premiership last year at just 18 whilst sister Hannah is a decorated Jillaroo and NSW Blues representative. 

“I have openly expressed my desire to play at the Knights with my sister Jesse and this deal ensures we can do that together for a long time," Hannah Southwell said.

April 19: Premiership-winning playmaker, Kirra Dibb, has left Newcastle to join the Cowboys on a two-year deal. 

“Kirra is a major signing for our club in our inaugural season,” North Queensland's coach Ben Jeffries said. 

“She is a highly rated representative player who brings a huge amount of experience and success. Kirra is a strong communicator and gifted playmaker with a long kicking game as well as being an extremely accurate goal kicker."

Dibb has featured for the Jillaroos and New South Wales while also representing the Indigenous All Stars in the past two years. 

April 19: The Raiders have announced three more signings with Chanté Temara, Tommaya Kelly-Sines and Felice Quinlan inking deals in the nation's capital. 

April 17: Roxy Murdoch-Masila has joined her husband, Ben Murdoch-Masila, at the Dragons. 

The couple will make history if she plays this season as they will become the first husband-wife combination to ply their trade at the same club across the NRL and NRLW. 

April 16: The Sharks announced speedster Emma Tonegato on a two-year deal. An Olympic gold medal winner in rugby sevens, Tonegato has played two seasons with the Dragons in the NRLW, taking out the Dally M Medal in 2021. 

April 14: The Raiders have made two more exciting additions to their roster with Hollie-Mae Dodd and Mackenzie Wiki joining. 

Dodd won the Young Player of the Year in the Super League last year, while also representing England at last year's World Cup.

Meanwhile, Wiki will follow in the footsteps of her famous father, Reuben, who is a Canberra icon. 

“It’s an honour to follow my Dad at the same club," Wiki said.

"His first club was Raiders now my first club is Raiders. It’s just surreal.”

April 13: Fresh off the news of Tamika Upton re-committing to the Knights, the club has had another major recruitment win with two-time premiership-winning forward Yasmin Clydsdale inking a new three-year deal. 

April 13: Neta Nu’uausala has re-signed with the Broncos after the 28-year-old joined the club last year. 

April 13: The Sydney Roosters have locked up an impressive trio, re-signing Keilee Joseph, Olivia Kernick, and Otesa Pule for the 2023 season. 

All three of these players have represented their nation in international play; Joseph and Kernick for Australia, and Pule for New Zealand.

April 12: Premiership-winning fullback Tamika Upton has re-signed with the Newcastle Knights. 

The club's first signing this year has inked a mammoth contract that will keep her in the Hunter until at least the end of 2027.

“I am really excited to have my next five years sorted and can’t wait for the 2023 NRLW season to get started," the 2022 Karyn Murphy Medallist said. 

April 12: The Cronulla Sharks have announced their first signing with Indigenous All Stars captain Quincy Dodd joining the club.

The local junior made history as Cronulla's first player ahead of their debut campaign in the NRLW.

April 12: Former National bobsled representative, Ashleigh Werner, has joined the Broncos. 

"Ashleigh is a powerful athlete and has really impressed with what she has done for the Tigers in the NSW Women’s Premiership," Scott Prince said. 

”She is big and strong and runs hard and plays a role for her team." 

April 12: Local junior Teagan Berry has re-signed with the Dragons after impressing for the Red V since her debut three years ago. 

April 11: The Raiders have continued their recruitment drive with a fresh batch of new signings. 

Jillaroo Shakiah Tungai and Kiwi Fern Madison Bartlett have both signed one-year deals at Canberra.

“I'm super excited to have the opportunity to join the Raiders, especially being a part of the inaugural team,” Bartlett said.

April 10: The Wests Tigers have announced five new signings on Easter Monday with Najvada George, Rikeya Horne, Losana Lutu, Christian Pio, and Tess Staines the latest additions to Brett Kimmorley's side. 


“I think it’s brilliant that we have been able to attract such quality players for our first season,” the coach said. 

“These players bring a wealth of NRLW experience, and that’s crucial for us in year one." 

April 10: Maroons and Jillaroo representative Karina Brown re-signs with the Gold Coast Titans with hopes of premiership glory.

“It’s our dream to bring the first ever premiership home to the Gold Coast. It’s an opportunity too great to pass up, and I am thrilled to return for my third season with the Titans.”

April 10: North Queensland have signed QLD under 19 representative and indigenous All Star centre Jasmine Peters to a three-year deal.

“It’s hard to believe ‘Jaz’ is still just 20 when you consider she’s a three-time Indigenous All-Star, who also brings Queensland under 19s and NRLW experience,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries said.

“Jasmine will be a prominent figure in our backline, with her powerful carries and I know she is determined to test herself against the best within the NRLW space as she pushes for higher honours.”

April 7: Sydney have announced their first move of the 2023 season with the re-signing of their captain Isabelle Kelly

“I’m incredibly proud to call myself a Rooster," last year's Dally M Captain and Centre of the Year said. 

"I love the club and the people in it and I can’t wait to get back into it." 

April 7: The Eels have made a major signing, picking up NSW Sky Blues halfback Rachael Pearson. The 29-year-old Wagga Wagga local moves to Parramatta after spending two seasons with the Dragons.

April 6: The Raiders have continued their impressive recruitment drive by signing Ash Quinlan, who helped guide Parramatta to the grand final in 2022, along with former Bronco Sophie Holyman. 

April 6: Fresh off the back of announcing Emma Manzelmann as the club's first signing, North Queensland have recruited Tahlulah Tillett. The halfback has signed a one-year deal at the Cowboys.

April 6: The Broncos have snared Mele Hufanga after her starring role for the Kiwi Ferns at the World Cup last year, while also snaring Queensland Origin star Tazmin Gray. 

Gray, who joins from the Titans, won a premiership with the Broncos back in 2019. 

April 6: New South Wales and Jillaroos representative Kennedy Cherrington has signed a long-term deal to remain at Parramatta until at least the end of 2025. 

“Kennedy is such an important part of our women’s program and has shown what a leader she is both on and off the field,” the club's General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said. 

April 4: The Wests Tigers have made their first three signings with Kezie AppsBotille Vette-Welsh and Sarah Togatuki joining the club. 

“The club have made a significant investment to become part of the NRLW future and become a franchise, so it was very important for us to go out and recruit good people, good players and good leaders,” coach Brett Kimmorley said. 

"These three players are premium players who have played big games of football and will be great mentors for the players they're playing with."

April 4: Emma Manzelmann has become North Queensland's inaugural signing with the premiership-winner joining from Newcastle.

“This a monumental day for both our club and rugby league in North Queensland,” the club's CEO Jeff Reibel said.

“Emma epitomises everything our club stands for.

"Hailing from Mackay, she is a North Queensland girl who has progressed through our development program and has dreamt of playing on rugby league’s biggest stage, she will now have that opportunity whilst not having to leave her home region."

April 4: Jillaroos representative Taliah Fuimaono has signed with the Titans for the next three seasons.

April 3: The Titans continue their impressive early recruitment drive with three more additions to Karyn Murphy's side. 

Former Broncos trio Emily Bass, Dannii Perese and Kaitlyn Phillips will all make the switch to the Glitter Strip. 

April 3: The Raiders have announced their first three signings with Jillaroos stars Zahara Temara and Simaima Taufa joined by rising talent Monalisa Soliola

April 3: Brisbane have announced their first two singings of 2023 are Ali Brigginshaw and Gayle Broughton

Captain Brigginshaw has been a mainstay for the Broncos and will now be joined by exciting fullback Broughton who earned the RLPA NRLW 'Rookie Of The Year' Award last season off the back of a starring role for Parramatta. 

Brisbane also revealed that Shenae Ciesiolka, Brianna Clark and Jada Ferguson had all re-signed with the club.

"All three of them are representative quality players and bring so much to the table both on and off the field, it's really exciting to look at the team we are building at the Broncos," coach Scott Prince said. 

It's capped a busy day for the club with Knights premiership-winner Romy Teitzel also joining along with former Roosters hooker Destiny Brill.
