With the bright lights of Vegas now in the rearview mirror, the NRL has finally brought their opening round to a close with only one player issued with time on the sidelines.

Spencer Leniu fronted the NRL Judiciary after lodging an early guilty plea to his contrary conduct charge, while Tino Fa'asuamaleaui escaped with a fine for a shoulder charge.

Spencer Leniu banned for eight games at NRL Judiciary

Spencer Leniu has been handed an eight-game ban at the NRL Judiciary after he pleaded guilty to a contrary conduct charge

The charge comes following Ezra Mam’s complaint that the Sydney Roosters prop had directed a racial slur at him during his side’s win over Brisbane in Vegas.

The incident soured what had been a brilliant introduction into the American market with the enforcer now facing a two-month period on the sidelines.

"I am so sorry that I used that word I said that to Ezra and I made him feel little," Leniu said during the hearing.

"This game goes so fast and, in that split second, I said a word I shouldn’t have.

"I didn’t know how much that word means to the Indigenous community.

"I thought it was one grow man sledging another grown man. In my circle that is so common, and I didn’t know how much that word meant to Ezra and to all the Indigenous people in the game."

Tino Fa'asuamaleaui avoids suspension over shoulder charge

Despite having a similar charge on his recent record, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui has avoided suspension over a shoulder charge on Mikaele Ravalawa.

The Titans skipper was cited in his side's loss to the Dragons on Saturday night and, with an early plea, will be fined $3,000.

Braydon Trindall charged for high shot in Warriors clash

Cronulla's five-eighth Trindall has been issued with a Grade 1 careless high tackle charge after he collected Dallin Watene-Zelezniak on the chin during his side's win in Auckland.

The incident occurred in just the second minute of the match and resulted in a penalty after the Warriors' winger stayed down from the contact. Trindall will have to pay a $1,000 fine with an early guilty plea.

In Friday's later match, Will Warbrick was also cited for a high tackle which will result in a $1,000 fine with an early guilty plea.

Canberra's Hudson Young, Emre Guler both cop dangerous contact charges

While it was a successful opening game for the Canberra Raiders, two of their players will come away from Thursday's match with their pockets a little lighter.

Hudson Young was the first to get written up, charged with dangerous contact against 2023 Dally M medalist Kalyn Ponga 25 minutes in.

Five minutes later, he was joined by Emre Guler, who received a similar fate for his hit on Dylan Lucas.

Both players are facing four-digit fines for their efforts, but both have been reduced with an early guilty plea.

Reece Walsh avoids suspension for shoulder charge

Broncos fullback Reece Walsh has avoided suspension after pleading guilty to a shoulder charge on Daniel Tupou.

The Roosters winger looked set to score in the corner before a desperate Walsh challenge stopped him in his tracks.

Walsh wasn't attempting to tackle and, due to a similar incident on his recent record, will be fined $3,000.

Meanwhile, Nathan Brown and Jai Arrow have also taken early guilty pleas and accepted the associated fines.
