Anthony Richardson has been shouldering the load for the Colts, and it may have cost him one.

The Colts quarterback has certainly looked the part of franchise passer early on in the 2023 season, but his budding rookie of the year campaign may have taken a major hit in Week 5 against the Titans.

On a designed run, Richardson landed hard on his right (throwing) shoulder, and would head to the sideline and the locker room soon after that. The injury didn't look great, and he was immediately replaced by veteran backup Gardner Minshew.

Here's the latest on Richardson's injury:

Anthony Richardson injury update

In the second quarter of the Week 5 Colts-Titans AFC South matchup, Richardson was injured on a designed run to the outside. Titans linebacker Harold Landry III seemed to land directly on top of Richardson on a tackle, driving the quarterback's shoulder into the ground in an unfortunate hit.

Richardson would immediately point to his right shoulder and he would be tended to by Indianapolis medical staff.  Soon after, Richardson would make his way to the locker room with his right arm dangling by his side.

Richardson would initially be listed as "questionable" to return in the matchup, but he would later be downgraded to "out."

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Richardson's X-rays came back negative, which may rule out any kind of collarbone injury. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Richardson may be dealing with some kind of AC joint injury with the X-rays negative.

Head coach Shane Steichen would add that he doesn't have details on Richardson's injury.

It's not the first time Richardson is dealing with an injury this year. He missed a game vs. the Ravens while dealing with a concussion, returning in Week 4 vs. the Rams.

In his stead, Gardner Minshew would take the reins. Minshew led the Colts to an overtime win Baltimore in Week 3.

Entering Week 5, Richardson has thrown for 479 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, adding 131 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
