Australia has defeated New Zealand 35-23 in the final of the Fast5 Netball World Series in Christchurch on Sunday.

The all-conquering Diamonds recorded their second win in two days over their trans-Tasman rivals to add yet another international honour to their vast catalogue.

Defenders Matilda Garrett and Ashleigh Ervin were pivotal in the victory, restricting the Kiwis' chances and getting plenty of pressure on the ball when Grace Nweke and Co. did get their hands on it.

After failing to take out the Fast5 World Series across the first nine tournaments, the Aussies have now gone back-to-back.

It got off to a slightly shaky start on Saturday with an early loss to Jamaica but Australia recovered to win the remainder of their games.

Earlier, New Zealand claimed a 51-34 victory over the Aussies in the men's final while England claimed the bronze in women's with a 30-22 win over South Africa.

What is Fast5 Netball? Rules and format

In the Fast5 format of netball, teams are made up of five players, rather than the standard seven.

The match length is shorter, with games split into four six-minute quarters.

Unlimited substitutions are also allowed throughout a match from the 'substitution box'.

When it comes to scoring, there are three different zones: worth one, two and three points, respectively.

After a goal is scored, the team that did not score takes the centre pass, unlike the traditional alternating centre pass rules.
