Ben Simmons has made a strong start to the 2023-24 season, settling into his role as the Brooklyn Nets' primary ball handler.

Entering the season, there were some question marks surrounding Simmons' role on the team this season, but with the youthful group getting up and down the floor, the Aussie has looked back to his playmaking best, pushing the tempo, creating fastbreak opportunities and scoring in transition.

“That’s gonna be a priority of mine, just get out on the run, push the ball, push the pace, and find my guys,” Simmons said after the Nets’ first win of the season against the Hornets.

“I think that’s the first part about our team; we’re gonna go out and run. But I don’t think that’s everything about us, we’ve got some growing to do. We’re capable of playing the half-court, too.”

With their first win of the season under their belt, the Nets know they still have plenty of work to do as they look to remodel their offense, with head coach Jacque Vaughn targeting less isolations and more motion offense for his new group.

“I think that’s the first part about our team that you will see. We’re going to get out and run, but I don’t think that’s everything about us. I think we got a lot more growing to do," Simmons added.

"We’re capable of playing the half court too, once we figure out our sets and how we want to play. But, the first part is running, you know? We’re going to get out on transition and run.”

Through the first four games of the season, Simmons is putting up 7.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.5 assists on 56 percent shooting with 2.5 turnovers.

In TAB's Overs/Unders Season Predictions, Benyam Kidane confidently took the over on Simmons' line of -6.5 assists for the season and so far that number looks right on track.
