Fitness competition Hydrox is making its way to the region for the first time with an inaugural event at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo on 19 and 20 November as part of the Hong Kong Fitness + Wellness Expo 2022. The race, touted as being for ‘every body’, has taken the fitness world by storm and has attracted more than 4,000 participants and 10,000 spectators since its inception in 2017.

Research shows that over half of gym-goers consider fitness their primary sport. Gym-goers are constantly challenging themselves to improve, and there’s rarely a scenario where they compete against each other like athletes would in conventional timekeeping or scorekeeping sports. Hyrox provides the perfect platform for fitness athletes to test their limits and compete in a friendly environment.

The race involves eight rounds of 1 km run plus a functional fitness movement such as rowing and sandbag lunges. Participants get to compete across four categories, from a standard race designed for everyone and a pro tier for more experienced racers to doubles and relay races.

The Hong Kong Fitness + Wellness Expo, which kicks off a day ahead of the race, will see Hong Kong’s health and wellness industry come together in a series of fitness and yoga classes. In addition to Hyrox, the event is divided into four other zones, NTC Fit District, Cathay Yoga Stage, Lifestyle-Leisure Expo, and Gym Village.

Some of the key events across the three days include the Go With The Flow, Mindfulness class led by Ankie Beilke, the Strength and Endurance class led by local Nike NTC master trainer Utah Lee and Zumba instructor George Lu, as well as the Get your Splits class dedicated to mastering the splits led by Sandy To.
