James Newbury In My Shoes

Being 4x Australia’s Fittest Man doesn’t come without its sacrifices.

For episode one of SN AU's new series, In My Shoes, James Newbury took us through what an ordinary day in the life of an extraordinary person’s world looks like.

SPOILER: It’s busy.

In between stops for the UA Combine, for which he’s the competition director, James met up with SN AU in Sydney to run, climb, swim, do a podcast and chew the fat over life in general.

In between his commitments for the Combine, James is also training for a 70.3 Ironman and running his own business.

We did our best to keep up.

Check it out below.

What is the UA COMBINE?

300 athletes will participate in a total of eight physical and mental tests devised by Under Armour‘s Global Head of Athlete Performance, Michael Watts.

The 8 tests will focus on:

1. AGILITY: Arrowhead Change-of-Direction Speed Test

2. STAMINA: Pull-up Beep Test

3. VERTICAL: Standing Vertical Leap Test

4. POWER: 20m Sled Push

5. ENDURANCE: 20m Beep Test

6. STRENGTH: 3RM Bench Press

7. SPEED: 40 Yard Dash

8. COGNITION: Reaction Inhibition Test

Each test will challenge the athlete’s agility, stamina, vertical, power, endurance, strength, speed, and cognition. Points will be earned for each completed test and athletes will be ranked according to their final result.

With events set to take place across four countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and Thailand, the UA combine season will kick off in Singapore on 20th August, and travel to Kuala Lumpur on 3rd September, Sydney on 17th September and Bangkok on October 1st

With prizes of $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000, respectively for first, second and third place, there’s plenty on the line.
