Cameron Smith fell just short of winning on his LIV Golf debut, finishing tied for fourth at the event in Boston - but still collected a mammoth payout for the result.
But it was a case of what might have been for Smith with the Australian tied for the lead on the penultimate hole of the tournament before a bogey ruled him out of contention.
Dustin Johnson notched a 35-foot eagle putt on 18 to give him the win in a sudden-death playoff at the LIV Golf invitational at the International.
The American finished ahead of Joaquin Niemann and Anirban Lahiri in the playoff, with Smith coming in equal-fourth, pocketing a cool $1.5 million for the event.
In comparison, the winner of the Wyndham Championship, the most recent PGA Tour event, received $1.9 million for winning the event.
Looking like he was going to be a contender to win, Smith smashed his tee shot into the trees on the first hole, which was his second-last hole for the round.
He was forced to play the ball sideways out on to the fairway before managing to salvage a bogey.
Smith revealed he enjoyed the support of the Boston crowd that regularly chanted his name throughout the tournament.
“Whenever I come up here there’s people rooting for me,” Smith said.
“I don’t know if it’s the hair (mullet). The competition here is fantastic, it’s loud and it feels like the course has a heartbeat.
“I love that and I can’t wait to keep going.”
