The second quarterfinal at the 2023 Asian Cup will see heavyweights collide as Australia take on South Korea.

Both sides fell at this point in 2019, as Australia lost to host nation UAE, while South Korea were shocked by eventual winners Qatar.

This time around, the two nations will be desperate to finally live up to their billing as tournament favourites after below par performances to this point.

Australia were at times outplayed by Indonesia in the Round of 16, but a late flurry of goals saw them take home a 4-0 win, whilst South Korea scored a 99th minute equaliser against Saudi Arabia, before triumphing in a penalty shootout 4-2.

Below, we look at all the latest betting odds, predictions, injury news and analysis for Australia vs. South Korea in the Asian Cup 2023.

Australia vs. South Korea team news and line-ups

Australia were boosted by the return of striker Mitch Duke off the bench against Indonesia after he missed their final group game.

Craig Goodwin also made his return to the side off the bench, and had an instant impact with a goal and an assist, though it is unknown whether coach Graham Arnold is willing to play the South Australian and exciting youngster Jordan Bos in the same starting side.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s substitutes did the damage against Saudi Arabia, with Cho Gue-Sung scoring the equaliser, while Hwang Hee-Chan helped change the game off the bench and scored the winning penalty in the shootout.

He has rarely been sighted at the tournament due to injury, but his timely return to the side may just be the boost the Taeguk Warriors need to return to their best and charge towards the final.

Australia vs. South Korea match analysis, prediction and betting odds

Australia and South Korea have clashed many times over the years, both before and after Australia entered the AFC.

Their biggest meetings came in the Asian Cup when they were drawn together in Group A, and South Korea secured a 1-0 win in Brisbane that saw them top the group.

As fate would have it, they would meet in the final in Sydney, but this time Australia would come out on top in a thrilling game that went to extra time, seeing them win their first ever Asian Cup.

Since then, the sides have faced off twice in international friendlies, with one draw and one win for South Korea; this match is a difficult one to call, with Korea having more star power and having been impressive against Saudi Arabia, but Australia have only conceded one goal at the tournament and tend to do well against stronger opposition.
