The Australian Cricket Team did the unthinkable on Sunday after becoming the first team to win an ICC World Championship in all formats of the game.

Australia beat India at the World Test Championship (WTC) Final on Sunday to clinch the prestigious Test mace. The World Test Championship was the only missing piece in Australia’s puzzle of ICC silverware, having already won the ODI World Cup multiple times and the T20 World Cup.

There have been some mainstays in the Australia squad over the years. Five of those players have been a part of all the squads that clinched the ICC trophies in the three formats.

Josh Hazlewood, David Warner, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins are now the only five players in the world to have won an ICC trophy in all the formats - Test, ODI, and T20.

Interestingly, the five of them were part of the Australia team that won the following tournaments:

  • 2015 ICC ODI World Cup
  • 2021 T20I World Cup
  • 2023 World Test Championship

Australia’s ICC wins - How have Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood, Smith and Warner contributed?

2015 ODI World Cup

They were all a part of the squad that won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2015. Smith and Warner were crucial with the bat, scoring 402 and 345 runs respectively.

Starc finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets, whereas Cummins played two matches, and picked up five wickets in total. Josh Hazlewood picked up seven scalps in five matches.

Australia had a campaign to remember, beating New Zealand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in a convincing manner in the final to clinch their fifth ODI World Cup title.

2021 T20 World Cup

Australia emerged victorious over New Zealand again at the 2021 World T20.

The ever-dependable Warner finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. He scored 289 runs in seven innings. Steve Smith, though, had a subdued tournament, scoring 69 runs in four innings.

Hazlewood was fourth on the list of leading wicket-takers, bagging 11 wickets. He also picked up three wickets in the final. Cummins picked up five wickets in seven outings, while Starc bagged nine wickets in seven matches.

2023 World Test Championship

In the 2023 World Test Championship win against India, Australia were a class apart. Smith was impressive with his strokeplay in the first innings, scoring a magnificent century (121 runs off 268 balls) that turned the tide in Australia’s favor since day 1.

Starc and Cummins picked up four wickets each in the Test match. With the bat, Warner did not score much while Hazlewood was not selected in the playing XI due to an injury. But he still received a medal as he was part of the squad.
