Matthew Wade will once again captain Australia after he was named in the 15-man T20 squad for their tour of India which will start following the conclusion of the ICC World Cup.

"It’s an experienced squad with a mixture of players who have had their first opportunity on the international stage and that we hope will continue to develop into important players in our T20 group," chair of selectors, George Bailey, said upon the unveiling of the team.

Wade will lead the side in the five-match series with Cricket Australia yet to formally appoint a permanent captain to take over from Aaron Finch.

"Matthew has captained the team previously, is a leader in the group and we look forward to him taking the reins for this series," Bailey explained.

"Like Mitch Marsh in the South Africa series, this is another great opportunity to further deepen our international leadership experience and depth.

The veteran wicketkeeper will be joined by a crop of World Cup stars including Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head.

However, due to a tight schedule which will see the Aussies open their Test summer just 11 days after the conclusion of the T20 series, a number of players have been left out.

The trio of fast bowlers currently at the World Cup in Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will head home to recover and prepare for the opening Test in Perth.

Meanwhile, Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh will join them in the trip back following the conclusion of this month's tournament.

"It’s always a great challenge to take on India on their home soil," Bailey ädded.

"Most of the squad have extensive experience in playing in India, including eight members of the current ODI World Cup squad, alongside Tanveer Sangha who is currently a travelling reserve."

David Warner has withdrawn from the squad after the World Cup and will be replaced by Aaron Hardie.

The first match between the Aussies and India is on Friday, November 24 at Visakhapatnam’s Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium.
