AFL Supercoach rookies 2020

AFL Supercoach 2020: The cheapies you need to keep an eye on - round two update

Author Photo

Whether you got off to a flyer or your pre-season plans came to nothing, the coronavirus shutdown has given Supercoaches the chance to push the reset button on season 2020.

Some changes have been made to competition, most notably giving us five trades to use before round two, so there's plenty of thinking to be done.

The finals will now begin in round 14, which means you can't afford to sit on your hands - the big calls have to be made.

Fast cash generation is going to be the name of the game, so you need the right rookies in your team.

The extended layoff has given plenty of established names time to get over injuries so places in round two teams will be hard to come by.

Next Thursday's team selection announcement might just be the most important night of the Supercoach year.

As well as the extra trades and shortened season, prices will now change after round two, instead of round three, so if you bugger it up, you may as well head off for your end-of-season trip.

Fortunately, we're here to help - read on for our guide on which rookies to hang onto, which ones to ditch and which one you need in your team right now

Will Gould (DEF) - $117,300

Will Gould (DEF) - $117,300

Update: Somewhat surprisiginly, didn't play in round one but shouldn't have to wait too long. If he's selected for round two, we'll be bringing him in.

A ready-made defender option who should feature early in the season.

Many observers thought Sydney got him cheap with pick 26 and he may prove to be a Supercoach bargain too.

Big-bodied but also capable of bringing the ball out of the backline.

He's in our team for now though didn't play in Marsh II which is a slight concern.

Marsh Series scores: 68,  DNP

Lachlan Ash (DEF) - $193,800

Lachlan Ash (DEF) - $193,800

Update: Didn't make the side for round one and the break can't have improved his chances a whole lot. His high price makes it hard to justify even if he is picked in round two. You'd wanna be confident he can score big to select him.

The Victorian got to the Giants with pick four and looks set to add to the club's stocks of rebounding defenders.

If Zac Williams and Lachie Whitfield continue in their roles further up the field, it could open the door for Ash.

Though at his price, he'll have to impress in pre-season to get a spot in our side.

Marsh Series scores: 88, 62

Round 1 score: DNP

Damon Greaves (DEF) - $123,900

Damon Greaves (DEF) - $123,900

Update: Didn't play round one and you'd have to question his job security. Avoid.

The Western Australian is about to enter his second season on the list and this could be the one he makes his senior debut.

Small defender Blake Hardwick has been ruled out for three months after rupturing a pec and Greaves may be the man to benefit.

Did his chances so harm with a solid showing in the Hawks first Marsh Series game.

Marsh Series scores: 80, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Fischer McAsey (DEF) - $184,800

Fischer McAsey (DEF) - $184,800

Update: Coaches that gambled on the tall defender's scoring potential in round one were punished. At his price, you're better off trading to a cheaper option who is sure to earn you some quick cash.

While key defenders often aren't great pick ups in Supercoach, if McAsey does play this year he'll likely be given some license to roam.

The Crows took him with pick six in the draft and he's impressed in pre-season.

Tom Doedee suffered a slight setback to his knee which should help his chances of selection.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, 47

Round 1 score: 16

Jez McLennan (DEF) - $123,900

Jez McLennan (DEF) - $123,900

Update: We like his price and we think he'll score solidly if he plays. Keep an eye on the Suns' team for round two but don't count him out.

The medium-sized defender was taken with pick 23 in the 2018 draft and looked like breaking through for a senior debut at various stages.

It was never forthcoming but now with another pre-season under the belt, he remains well and truly on the radar.

Definitely one to watch over the Marsh Series.

Marsh Series scores: 36, 28

Matt Ling (DEF) - $123,900

Matt Ling (DEF) - $123,900

Update: Didn't feature in round one and is unlikely any time soon.

The dashing left-footer was taken with the 14th pick in the 2017 draft but injuries have cruelled his first two years on the Swans' list.

Had his contract extended at the end of 2019, so Sydney have obviously seen enough, and with the retirement of several senior players, he may be the man they look to for some outside run and high quality foot skills.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Hayden Young (DEF) - $180,300

Hayden Young (DEF) - $180,300

Update: Highly rated and highly priced but didn't play in round one. Should be a star when he plays but give him a week at the price.

Young got to the Dockers with pick seven and should get games early.

Blessed with a lethal left foot and a tendancy to come up with intercept possessions, he has all the tools to be a Supercoach gun.

Didn't feature in either Marsh Series game as the Dockers look to get some more work into him, which doesn't bode well for his round one chances.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Will Day (DEF) - $153,300

Will Day (DEF) - $153,300

Update: Hasn't debuted yet and probably won't soon. Look elsewhere.

The versatile defender was a bolter when the Hawks selected him with pick 13 but he's done plenty right so far.

Not quite a key position size but able to play on both talls and smalls, Day will be hoping Hawthorn can find a spot for him in the backline.

Often finds himself bringing the footy out from defence so should have no problem scoring if he can get a game.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Stephen Hill (DEF/FWD) - $190,600

Stephen Hill (DEF/FWD) - $190,600

Update: Didn't play round one with a quad injury and is an obvious risk, but has shown he can score well in the past. Looks to be a chance for selection in round two, do you back him to stay fit?

He's not a rookie but he is priced like one.

The 29-year-old Dockers speedster is coming off the back of two injury-hit seasons.

If he can get his body right and get back to near his best (averaged 95+ in 2014 and 2015) he might be the buy of the season.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, 32

Round 1 score: DNP

Jarrod Brander (DEF/FWD) - $133,000

Jarrod Brander (DEF/FWD) - $133,000

Update: Played on the wing in round one and looked the goods. Hang onto him and think very hard about buying if you don't already have.

The versatile tall did his round one hopes no harm over the Marsh Series.

Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling both had pre-season injury concerns but look right to go, though his ability to play higher up the ground may just get him a game.

Marsh Series average: 61

Round 1 score: 59

Brandon Starcevich (DEF/MID) - $147,700

Brandon Starcevich (DEF/MID) - $147,700

Update: His round one score makes this a tricky one. Dual-position status is handy but you'd want to hope he can up his scoring. Think about hanging on to him if you've already got him but don't trade him in.

The young Lion is entering his third year on the list and has played five senior games.

Managed just one in 2019 as Brisbane enjoyed a charmed run with injuries.

Can play both inside and outside and at either of the ground, meaning he'll be knocking on the door if a place opens up.

Marsh Series scores: 40, 61

Round 1 score: 28

Trent Bianco (DEF/MID) - $117,300

Trent Bianco (DEF/MID) - $117,300

Update: Seems to be slightly down the pecking order at the moment.

Yet another dual-position player for our consideration.

An outside player who gets plenty of the footy and generally finds a teammate by foot.

Will be a tough task getting a game in a competitve Pies outfit, but one to keep an eye on in pre-season.

Marsh Series scores: 14, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Trent Rivers (DEF/MID) - $117,300

Trent Rivers (DEF/MID) - $117,300

Update: The pre-season predictions didn't come off and he didnt feature in round one and may have to wait before he makes his debut.

The Western Australian looks as if he could be ready to go early in the season and his dual-position status makes him very enticing.

Averaged over 20 disposals per game throughout the National Championships and was dominant in the WAFL colts.

Clean by foot and boasts plenty of running power.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Matt Rowell (MID) - $207,300

Matt Rowell (MID) - $207,300

Update: He's a gun. If you didn't start with him, get him in. Now.

He's certainly an expensive rookie but that price might look cheap if the ball magnet takes to AFL like most expect.

Guaranteed to get plenty of minutes early in the season at the Suns and has the game style to rack up big scores.

Averaged a ridiculous 171 points in the NAB League last season.

Dominated in Marsh One and then sat out the second half in week two. Lock him in.

Marsh Series scores: 100, 36

Round 1 score: 80

Tom Green (MID) - $166,800

Tom Green (MID) - $166,800

Update: His round 1 score didn't quite follow up his pre-season output but we're backing him to hit his straps. Lots of competition for spots at the Giants so have a plan b.

Some recruiters likened the Giants Academy product to Patrick Cripps so it was a surprise to see him slip to pick 10.

Inside ball-winner who will definitely be in the mix for games early, though GWS have plenty of quality players in that area.

If his pre-season efforts demand a place in Leon Cameron's side, he'll probably get one in ours too.

Marsh Series scores: 106, 72

Round 1 score: 41

Caleb Serong (MID) - $175,800

Caleb Serong (MID) - $175,800

Update: We're tipping him to be a Supercoach gun when he does play, but he may have to wait for his chance.

The midfielder averaged 24 disposals while co-captaining Vic Country at the National Championships, showcasing his ability to rack up the footy.

Serong has reportedly been training mostly as a forward since arriving at the Dockers, which should improve his chances of getting a game.

A competitive beast, he's got all the attributes to be a Supercoach weapon.

Marsh Series scores: 60, 16

Round 1 score: DNP

Marlion Pickett (MID) - $123,900

Marlion Pickett (MID) - $123,900

Update: If you didn't start with him, Supercoach probably isn't for you.

The man who debuted and almost won the Norm Smith Medal in the Tigers' grand final triumph gets his first crack at a full AFL season.

Showed all the poise and skill required to succeed at the level and gets in well under the weights.

If he finds himself in the best 22, which you'd have to think he will, he should be a lock.

Marsh Series scores: 61, 61

Round 1 score: 94

Dylan Stephens (MID) - $189,300

Dylan Stephens (MID) - $189,300

Update: Looked a good chance for an early season debut but didn't get the nod. Tricky price makes it a tough sell for us.

Proved to be a bolter when the Swans picked him at five so they obviously have high hopes for him.

Generally deployed on a wing, the South Australian should provide some of the outside run the Swans desperately need.

Still lightly framed, he's no guarantee to be in John Longmire's team from round one, so keep an eye on him in the Marsh Series.

Marsh Series scores: 38, 49

Round 1 score: DNP

Tyler Brown (MID) - $123,900

Tyler Brown (MID) - $123,900

Update: Looked the goods on debut and should keep his spot. Definitely one to hang on to.

He's in.

The son of legend Gavin and brother of Callum has been confirmed as a starter in the Pies' season opener against Western Bulldogs.

A big body capable of matching it on the inside, he could prove to be a shrewd pick in a classy midfield.

Marsh Series average: 50

Round 1 score: 64

Deven Robertson (MID) - $117,300

Deven Robertson (MID) - $117,300

Update: We're big fans of this kid and if he can hold his spot in the team, he'll make you plenty of cash in a tough season for rookie mids.

The big-bodied midfielder was one of the hard-luck stories on day one of the Draft when he was left on the board after the first round.

Brisbane didn't wait long to snap him up and he could prove to be the biggest steal of the crop.

Captained WA and was awarded the Larke Medal for player of the tournament at the U18 Championships, averaging 30 disposals along the way.

One to watch for sure.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, 62

Round 1 score: 47

Ned McHenry (MID) - $123,900

Ned McHenry (MID) - $123,900

Update: Could be the man to benefit from Tyson Stengle's suspension, so keep him in mind if he earns selection.

A midfield-forward with elite endurance, McHenry will be hoping to get his first clear run at it after some injury struggles last season.

New coach Matthew Nicks has committed to blooding youth, meaning a senior debut could beckon for McHenry after he impressed in the SANFL when fit last year.

Came off the ground with a "back-related hamstring issue" in a trial match, so beware.

Marsh Series scores: 37, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Jeremy Sharp (MID) - $117,300

Jeremy Sharp (MID) - $117,300

Update: Another one we were hoping to see early on but it didn't eventuate. Keep an eye on as a potential downgrade later in the year.

Two-time All Australian at U18 level who will be hoping to impress among a handy crop of draftees at the Suns.

An outside midfielder with a penetrating boot and a propensity to take the game on - sounds like a potential Supercoach gun.

If he's not in the Gold Coast side for round one, he probably won't have to wait long.

Marsh Series scores: 16, 42

Round 1 score: DNP

Riley Collier-Dawkins (MID) - $123,900

Riley Collier-Dawkins (MID) - $123,900

Update: He's been near a senior game plenty of times but not cracked it yet. We expect him to shine when he does get a chance.

Would have been on plenty of Supercoaches' radars last season, though he couldn't quite force his way into a senior debut.

Fortunately that means he's very well-priced this time around if he can earn a place in Richmond's quality midfield.

Got the body to play AFL and loves the contested footy.

Marsh Series scores: 30, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Jye Caldwell (MID) - $190,100

Jye Caldwell (MID) - $190,100

Update: Priced too high and low job security in a stacked Giants outfit.

The highly-rated midfielder played two games in his debut season last year, averaging 50 points.

With another pre-season under his belt, Caldwell, who averaged 21 touches a game at NEAFL level, should continue to develop.

Though with GWS' depth in midfield, and an expensive rookie price, he will have to really catch our eye in pre-season to get a start in our team.

Marsh Series scores: 42, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Sam Philp (MID) - $121,800

Sam Philp (MID) - $121,800

Update: One to watch for later in the year but it doesn't look like he'll feature too early.

The 20th pick in last year's draft, Philp shouldn't be too far off Carlton's best 22 from the get go.

A contested beast who will run all day often makes for a handy Supercoach pick up so we'll be keeping a very close eye on this bloke.

Not afraid to lay a tackle either which just adds to his scoring potential.

Marsh Series scores: 7, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Mitch Hibberd (MID) - $114,400

Mitch Hibberd (MID) - $114,400

Update: Keep a very close on eye on him. If he plays, he should score well and he won't break the bank.

The big-bodied midfielder was picked up as a rookie after impressing with Williamstown last season.

AFL experienced following a stint at North Melbourne, Hibberd should add some steel to the Bombers' midfield.

Gets in at a price that makes him hard to ignore, though pre-season knee surgery will sideline him for six weeks.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Jay Rantall (MID) - $117,300

Jay Rantall (MID) - $117,300

Update: Just about the worst club to be at if you're hoping for a run in the midfield. Safer options around.

The midfielder got his AFL career off to the perfect start when he won the Magpies' 2km time-trial shortly after being drafted.

He's continued to impress since then, pushing his case for a spot in a competitive Collingwood engine room.

With an extensive basketball background, could he be the next Scott Pendlebury?

Marsh Series scores: 34, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Xavier O'Halloran (MID) - $123,900

Xavier O'Halloran (MID) - $123,900

Update: Still no closer to breaking in to the GWS engine room.

Another player who probably would be a lock at a club with a weaker midfield but may struggle to get into the Giants' team.

An athletic midfielder who averaged more than 20 touches a game in the NEAFL after being drafted in 2018.

Yet to debut and facing plenty of competition, though worth monitoring even as a potential downgrade later on.

Marsh Series scores: 25, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Finn Maginness (MID) - $117,300

Finn Maginness (MID) - $117,300

Update: Hawthorn's midfield brigade is pretty stacked so he might have to bide his time.

Elite endurance is the father-son pick's biggest asset, but there's plenty more to his game than that.

He's already dethroned Isaac Smith as the club's time trial king and has impressed with his appetite for the contest.

Yet to show he can accumulate the footy consistently so keep an eye on his numbers over the Marsh Series.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Harley Bennell (MID) - $123,900

Harley Bennell (MID) - $123,900

Update: As below, are you brave enough? Vision emerged of him moving well in a Demons training hit out. Picking this bloke, or not picking him, could make or break your season.

Are you brave enough?

It would take a bold Supercoach to pick the injury troubled former Docker and Sun, but the upside is obvious.

A bloke who averaged over 95 three seasons in a row and over 100 in 2017 is now priced at almost bottom dollar.

That troublesome calf looks set to keep him out of action for the early part of the season.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Jackson Mead (MID) - $117,300

Jackson Mead (MID) - $117,300

Update: All going to plan, he should get a run later in this season and shapes as a strong downgrade choice.

An inside midfielder, the father-son recruit will have to impress to get a game in Port Adelaide's engine room.

Certainly did all the right things in his draft year, averaging more than 20 disposals a game to earn All Australian U18 selection.

A pre-season hamstring niggle means he could be a late season cash cow option if he can't quite break into the best 22 early on.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Luke Jackson (RUC) - $198,300

Luke Jackson (RUC) - $198,300

Update: Despite his obvious talent, the high price makes us wary, even if Simon Goodwin springs a surprise and picks him early on.

The number three pick went to the Dees in what was a slight surprise given Max Gawn and Brayden Preuss are both at the club.

Likely to be down the pecking order for a ruck spot for a little while yet.

Could potentially play forward but even then there's competition from Tom McDonald and Sam Weideman.

Marsh Series scores: 22, 71

Round 1 score:

Sam Draper (RUC) - $123,900

Sam Draper (RUC) - $123,900

Update: Possible late-season downgrade should he recover in time.

The young ruckman found himself in the middle of a tug-of-war for his services before making his senior debut.

Sidelined with an ACL injury, he opted to stick with the Bombers long-term.

If the wraps on him are on the money, he'll play senior footy in 2020.

Though that injury means it may not be until the back half of the season.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Connor Budarick (MID/FWD) - $106,900

Connor Budarick (MID/FWD) - $106,900

Update: Hang onto him if you've got him and think about a trade if you don't. Cheap as chips and dual position status.

This kid looks like he could be a goer and with that very handy dual-position status.

Hopefully his versality will see him get plenty of game time, though that could also lead to plenty of headaches of us Supercoaches.

Impressed in Marsh 1 and definitely one to keep an eye out for ahead round one.

Marsh Series scores: 74, 37

Round 1 score: 44

Aiden Bonar (MID/FWD) - $202,800

Aiden Bonar (MID/FWD) - $202,800

Update: Will almost certainly play at some stage but questions over his job security at that price.

Now, he wouldn't be the only player at a new club who we're hearing is training the house down, but we're pretty interested.

Played two games for the Giants but couldn't break into the midfielder, now gets a chance at North.

With dual-position status, don't be surprised to see him in our team from round one if he performs in pre-season.

Though he appears to have picked up a hammy issue, so keep an ear to the ground for any news.

Marsh Series scores: 76, 14

Round 1 score: DNP

Noah Anderson (MID/FWD) - $202,800

Noah Anderson (MID/FWD) - $202,800

Update: If you really like him, back yourself. If you're on the fence, give him a miss or trade him. Between him and Matt Rowell, it's a lot of cash on two rookies.

The number two pick ended up at Gold Coast alongside best mate Rowell and they look set to form quite the combination.

A big-bodied midfielder who can also go forward, Anderson isn't expected to be as prolific as Rowell though the wraps on him are still pretty big.

Will almost certainly get the nod for round one after being put on ice for the second half of the Suns' second pre-season hit out.

Marsh Series scores: 59, 13

Round 1 score: 42

Nakia Cockatoo (MID/FWD) - $148,200

Nakia Cockatoo (MID/FWD) - $148,200

Update: Potential high risk, high reward situation if you pick him. He could be a great POD but he could also cost you two trades if his body doesn't hold up.

Another experienced player who is priced like a rookie after struggles with injury.

Didn't play a game in 2019 and featured just twice the season before - a record that's sure to scare many Supercoaches off.

If he can get near his best, he'll prove a very profitable cash cow option though he is currently sidelined with yet another hamstring issue.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Jack Mahony (MID/FWD) - $117,300

Jack Mahony (MID/FWD) - $117,300

Update: Was in the mix for round one and probably will be for round two. Give him a game in the senior side to suss him out if you're a fan.

The small forward might have gone earlier than pick 34 had a hand injury not cut his draft year short.

He's impressed since arriving at the Roos, with a strong intra-club showing putting his name forward for an early debut.

It's an area North are short in so he should be in the mix.

Marsh Series scores: 30, 53

Round 1 score: DNP

Sam Flanders (MID/FWD) - $162,300

Sam Flanders (MID/FWD) - $162,300

Update: Shouldn't have to wait long for a senior game but the awkward price makes it hard to justify his selection if and when he does.

The ready-made midfield/forward was tipped to go higher than pick 11 so the Suns will be very happy with Flanders.

Powerfully built and strong in the contest, the Victorian should hit the ground running in 2020.

Not as prolific as Rowell or Anderson so keep an eye on his Marsh Series numbers to get a sense of his scoring potential.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Darcy Cameron (RUC/FWD) - $123,900

Darcy Cameron (RUC/FWD) - $123,900

Update: A Brodie Grundy-sized hurdle still stands between Cameron and a game.

The dual-position status for the former Swan could prove very handy for plenty of Supercoaches in 2020.

He's not about to unseat Brodie Grundy for the Pies' number one ruck spot but if he can get a game in the forward line he's sure to be in a lot of teams.

Dominated at NEAFL level for several seasons but only managed one senior game in Sydney.

At 204cm, he can create plenty of problems for opposition defences, just as he showed in the first pre-season game.

Marsh Series scores: 127, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Izak Rankine (FWD) - $123,900

Izak Rankine (FWD) - $123,900

Update: Get him in. Whether it's this week or next, we're tipping just about everyone to get on sooner or later.

The talented small forward was on track to be the most-owned player come round one but shoulder niggle may just delay his start to the season.

Didn't play a game through injury last season so comes in at a bargain price.

If the former number three pick hits his stride, he should prove a very safe selection.

Marsh Series scores: DNP, DNP

Round 1 score: DNP

Curtis Taylor (FWD) - $123,900

Curtis Taylor (FWD) - $123,900

Update: His first-round score gives him a breakeven of -32, making him one of your best options for quick cash. Get him in.

Second-year player who didn't set the world alight in his two games last year.

Definitely pushed his case with a solid pre-season so should be there or thereabouts.

Marsh Series average: 64

Round 1 score: 79

Max King (FWD) - $123,900

Max King (FWD) - $123,900

Update: Played in round one and did okay. Trust your gut on this one, but ours is wary of the inconsistency of a developing key position player.

The tall forward is likely to be one of most well-owned rookie forwards after spending last season sidelined with a knee injury.

His twin brother Ben impressed on the Gold Coast and Max went higher in the draft.

Be careful though - marking forwards aren't always the best option in Supercoach, young ones in particular.

Marsh Series scores: 46, 29

Round 1 score: 42

Mitch Georgiades (FWD) - $130,800

Mitch Georgiades (FWD) - $130,800

Update: Earned a game in round one and did well. If you've got him, you're best to hang on, but don't move mountains to trade him in as his job security and consistency are still up for debate.

Port took the tall forward with the 18th pick in the draft, with the Western Australian perhaps sliding further than expected after missing the year with injury.

It looks as if the gamble may pay off for the Power, with the athletic youngster impressing in the intra-club match.

Could he potentially line up alongside Charlie Dixon in the forward line come round one?

Marsh Series scores: 35, 43

Round 1 score: 78

Billy Frampton (FWD) - $165,400

Billy Frampton (FWD) - $165,400

Update: He's likely to be on the fringe of selection. If he gets picked and you've got more pressing issues, hold but start thinking how you might get rid of him.

At 23, Frampton might have expected to have played more than three senior games, but as we often hear, big blokes take longer to develop.

The 200cm forward joins the Crows from Port and could potentially plug the gaps in the squad following the departures of Sam Jacobs and Josh Jenkins.

Noted goalkicked in the twos, worth watching.

Marsh Series scores: 54, DNP

Round 1 score: 45

Sam Sturt (FWD) - $123,900

Sam Sturt (FWD) - $123,900

Update: He tonned up and has a breakeven of -53. If you didn't start with him, get him.

Sturt's first year on the Dockers list was hampered by a pair of concussions, limiting his chances to push for a case at AFL level.

If he does get a game this season, he should be pretty tough to match up on, possessing ability in the air and at ground level.

Seems to impress at every level he plays so don't be surprised to see him cement a place in Justin Longmuir's side.

Marsh Series scores: 39, 29

Round 1 score: 100

Kysaiah Kropinyeri-Pickett (FWD) - $157,800

Kysaiah Kropinyeri-Pickett (FWD) - $157,800

Update: If you started with him, keep him. If you didn't, only bring in him if you're super confident he's going to keep his spot.

The nephew of Norm Smith Medal winner Byron Pickett got to the Dees with pick 12, meaning he's not quite bottom dollar, but the expectations are high.

An absolute livewire, the South Australian kicks goals, tackles and takes big grabs.

Not really an accumalator of the footy at this stage so his Supercoach value remains to be seen.

Cody Weightman (FWD) - $144,300

Cody Weightman (FWD) - $144,300

Update: Plenty of talen, maybe a downgrade option later in the year.

A first-round pick who was considered among the leading small forwards in his draft class.

Finished as the U18 National Championships leading goalkicker, and with the Dogs short on smalls around the big sticks, he should feature early in the season.

Irving Mosquito (FWD) - $123,900

Irving Mosquito (FWD) - $123,900

Update: Give him a game. We want the Mosquito!

The Bombers teased Supercoaches last year but the small forward wasn't able to break through for a senior debut.

A year in the twos and another pre-season under the belt could be enough for him to crack the best 22.

As always, rookie forwards will be tough to settle on, so let's hope there's some safe bets out there.

Round 1 score:

Lachlan Hosie (FWD) - $123,900

Lachlan Hosie (FWD) - $123,900

Update: Unlikely to break in and make a big impact.

Mature ager who was picked up in the mid-season draft in 2019 but couldn't quite crack the best 22 at Arden St.

The mid-size forward kicked 20 goals in the ten VFL games after joining the Roos from Glenelg.

Hosie may be one of the players to get a chance under new coach Rhyce Shaw.

Miles Bergman (FWD) - $148,800

Miles Bergman (FWD) - $148,800

Update: Doesn't look like he's going to play in round two, but keep an eye on him for later in the season.

Port Adelaide's first pick (14th) in last year's draft, the mid-size forward is at the right club if he wants to taste AFL action.

The Power nailed it last year with Connor Rozee, Xavier Duursma and Zak Butters all proving they're up the standard.

Bergman can pull off the incredible but will he accumulate enough to be a Supercoach star this early in his career?
